🐶 Foster Friday: Finding Balance and Joy🐶 If you know me personally then you probably know that fostering dogs is one of my great joys. Both of my current dogs are foster fails and this little nugget is my 4th foster this summer. A couple weeks ago after handing back two 8 week old puppies, I had said to myself that I wouldn’t foster again until I accomplished some specific work goals. So I worked on them and worked on them and quickly felt myself becoming frustrated. I kept seeing how RACC(Richmond Animal Care and Control) was at max capacity and needed help and I started beating myself up for this stupid arbitrary rule I’d set for myself. Then yesterday my RACC foster coordinator reached out specifically asking if I could take this little guy in. I knew the minute I read the email that the answer was yes. Self-discipline is important… but so is knowing what energizes and gives you joy. Within a couple hours of saying yes I made a huge leap on one of my work goals. Releasing myself from my “punishment” actually helped me make real progress. On this Foster Friday, I’m reminded of the importance of balance. Balancing self-discipline with moments of self-care is essential, not just for our well-being, but for being able to be our best and give our best to others. As community members dedicated to supporting lost pets, it is crucial to recognize the limited availability of trapping volunteers. However, as a community member, you can play a vital role in assisting lost pet owners. By laying the necessary groundwork, you can ensure that when the time comes to deploy a trap, a trapper can efficiently capture the frightened pet and move on to the next pet in need. Trappers generously contribute their expertise, time, and efforts on a voluntary basis. They do not have the capacity to house stray pets whose owners are unknown. Nevertheless, by working together as a community, we can effectively support pets in distress. Join us to learn the fundamentals of trapping. You can contribute to expanding the knowledge and experience within our community. Together, we can build the next generation of skilled trappers.

K9 Willow and I are once again at an event, this time a swim meet. Although having a Service Dog is normal for me, there is still a significant amount of ignorance about service dogs, our rights as handlers, and the incredible benefits they provide. Service dogs like Willow are more than just companions; they are vital partners that empower individuals with disabilities to lead fuller, more independent lives. The presence of service dogs in major events, surrounded by thousands of people, helps to #BreachTheStigma and raises awareness of their invaluable contributions. It is essential to educate the public on the rights of service dog handlers and the profound impact these animals have on our lives. Service dogs offer unparalleled support, providing physical assistance, emotional stability, and a sense of security to those who need it most.
