A leaf from a journey's diary - Museum cafes and restaurants Cars are not produced to consume fuel. Likewise, museums are not there to make money and yet funds are necessary and welcome by just about any museum. Some bank on ticket sales but others can be much more creative. Restaurants and cafes are yet another case in point. There is a fine line between generating revenue and selling an experience. For a start, it has to do with what the museum’s public is comfortable with and that cold be just enough to make a visit worth the ticket price. Experiences that sell consistently are of a totally different kind. They do not relate to the immediate gain but focus on the potential enrichment of the museum’s public, the unexpected, the pleasantly unusual and the impactful. Such museum cafes do exist. #experience #museumcafe #oneweave #blurredlines
You’re absolutely right. The best museum cafes, restaurants, hostels, hotels, shops, and even crafts workshops are fully integrated with the core of the museum content and story line. That’s my experience. It’s not a way to success when all museum cafes looks the same and have the same to offer.
Some excellent observations dear Sandro Debono If museums work on making spaces where people feel relaxed it can really make the whole visit better. Creating a great experience can often be done by setting up cafes and restaurants that are thoughtfully put together. Such places provide a mix of chill vibes and a touch of culture which can make your time at museums even better and more unforgettable for all. #museumexperience #innovation #visitorengagement
