Cisco leveraged the community growth flywheel for its very early success before the community growth flywheel was actually a ‘thing’.
Listening to their story reaffirmed for me, some beliefs I have about what it takes to leverage community for growth in the B2B space. To truly leverage the power of community to grow a business/brand I think the following conditions have to be true:
- the community must be as passionate as you are about solving the problem that your brand/business solves. Just because someone experiences a pain point/problem/frustration, it does not necessarily mean that they are passionate about solving it.
- the community must be influential enough to shape the direction of a category/sector and change the status quo.
