Given the International Day of Women and Girls in Science this past February 11th, I’d like to share an amazing paper I was able to contribute to back in 2022. In this paper, we were able to analyze Mexican female students causes of desertion of STEM programs, based on a series of categories where we are usually influenced. One of the greatest outcomes was the fact that 60% of them had never been in any mentoring program or had some kind of formal companion on these areas, having applied the interviews to 6th semester students of the Tec21 Educational Model. Additionally, most women tend to dropout during their first year in STEM careers, ringing a bell on the importance of guidance and mentoring during their first steps into the STEM world. Given the fact the presence of women in STEM-related jobs is related to their participation in STEM-careers, I invite young professionals to continue working together towards building strong networks on the topic and sharing STEM related experiences in order to provide equal access and opportunities for everyone.
