This September 30 I’ve been quiet and really needing space for reflection and more learning; a complex, critical and somewhat emotional process as I head in new learning directions specific to where I am at personally with truth and reconciliation. While I can’t quite articulate how my Masters has changed me, and perhaps might never be able to put it into writing, the gratitude I feel today for the experiences, stories and teachings I have been privileged to hear and be part of from/with so many incredible Indigenous peoples, is overwhelming. Miigwech. Nia:wen! Kinanaskomatin. 🧡 The collaborators at the table for this research project brought their full selves in ways I never could have anticipated and blew me away with their passion for the topic every day for years. It was raw, real, emotional, and trusting and for this, I have stretched and grown and been wildly uncomfortable. I have been grappled with the truth and trying to determine how best to support the people who shared their stories, the way forward from my small space in our world, and how to amplify the voices I think we need to be paying close attention to! While universities aren’t residential schools, they represent the education system in the Canadian context and were used as a tool for assimilation for decades. I am looking forward to sharing my contribution to how we might move forward in authentic ways and where the relationships built will continue to take us even beyond! #highered #twoeyedseeing #timeforreflection #NDTR #gratitude #beuncomfortable #personalgrowth
