From fetching coffee to doing the work of a full-time employee, the reality of internships often swings between menial tasks and/or exploitation. While #internships offer invaluable opportunities for soon-to-graduate students to apply their knowledge in the real world, gaining experience often clashes with the harsh realities of exploitation and cutthroat competition. The pressure of "hustle culture," the relentless pursuit of self-improvement, and the idolization of success have created a fierce battleground where securing an internship feels like winning the lottery, making it easier than ever for companies to exploit this desperation. I want to empower all interns here, just as Turas Group empowered me during my internship with them three years ago by assigning me meaningful projects and showing their appreciation through fair compensation and benefits. Here's several thing that interns should know: 1. Written Internship Agreement (Perjanjian Magang) A formal agreement is mandatory. It should clearly outline the terms of the internship, including duration, working hours, responsibilities, learning objectives, and any compensation or benefits. 2. Fair Compensation (Uang Saku) While unpaid internships are legal under specific conditions (e.g., purely observational internships), if the intern's work primarily benefits the company, they are entitled to a reasonable stipend. This is mandated by the Minister of Manpower Regulation No. 6/2020. 3. Learning Objectives and Mentorship: Remember, your primary objective as an intern is to learn and grow. Access to programs and infrastructure that support your learning curve is your right, not a privilege. Stop #exploiting. Start #empowering.
