In his gifts last year, Santa added an extra “Be Nice” note for half the children. This year Santa has got the “Annual Niceness Score” for each kid from their parents. Santa decided to see if the kids who got the “Be Nice” note actually behaved nicer or not? 🤔 But sadly, the variance in the metric was too high and the test was underpowered. Santa thought of 3 ingenuous ways to increase the power of his results using CUPED. 1. Stratification: Santa realized that boys are more mischievous than girls which can be used to reduce variance. 2. Adjusting for Good School Performance: Santa realized he can use kid’s school performance to reduce more variance. 3. CUPED: Finally, Santa used each kid's last year’s niceness score for the highest power. 🎁What are some of your 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗴𝗶𝗳𝘁𝘀?🎁 Recently, I visited my client's place to do a review of the family's finances.  🍽️Since she was cooking for her 4 young kids, she asked if I would like a share and join them for dinner.  😋I gladly accepted the treat! 👍It tastes so good to enjoy a warm cozy dinner with those you care. Over the years, we have all receive a fair share of gifts.  ⭐I always like personalised gifts specially prepared by the givers. ⭐It always warm my heart to know that the gift is prepared with love and to show appreciation of me. There is so much for me to learn from my experience. As a financial consultant, we often gift our clients. 🙅♂️However, for the longest period of time, I always gave very typical gifts during special occasions, just like every other financial consultant. You can almost guess that you will  👉receive a card or a cake on your birthday. 👉card or red packets during Chinese New Year 👉card for Christmas 👉mooncakes during Mid-Autumn Festival For Mid-Autumn Festival, my top producer friend gave something very different to her clients. ✅Instead of mooncakes and teas, she gave lanterns to her clients with kids. ✅Just from her gift, she easily stood out among her peers. Novelty of gifts can impress.  ❌However, if you receive the same gift all the time,  ❌end up with plenty of them without a space to store them,  ❌and no chance to use them, Is this present really better than a specially curated gift from a loved one? What is your most memorable gift?

I’ve noticed I’m unstoppable when I’m doing something that excites me—something I naturally gravitate toward. But when I’m stuck doing things that don’t align with my interests, I shut down quickly, even if I’ve tried giving it my all. Burnout isn’t always about overwork; it’s often about misalignment. As I navigate the balance between pursuing my dreams and maintaining my well-being, I ask myself this question almost weekly: What lights me up? It’s a question worth asking yourself too. Because when you figure it out, everything changes.

I just finished the pre-read on this. It's a well-done story with the core message around the importance of community and recognizing that everyone has value and something to offer. This may be a children's book, but that core message - that everyone has value and something to contribute - is such an important leadership attribute. I work in technology and unfortunately every place I have worked I have witnessed "leaders" writing off others because of the perception that their demographic didn't fit the mold of what a good engineer should be. Generally this had to do with age, but that certainly wasn't the only demographic. Don't let that happen. Get to know people. Understand their strengths and help them showcase what they bring to the game. Be their champion. You will not only be helping them, but you be changing minds and helping others around them understand that everyone has value and something to contribute. That message can be planted early with this book as it's seed.

Recently I asked a few colleagues at Deutsche Bank about their favorite “Christmas messengers,” and their answers were just as varied as their backgrounds. From childhood memories of Santa to family celebrations with the Christkind, one thing was clear: it’s the shared experience and connection that truly make this season magical. ✨ Christmas is more than ads and icons—it’s about creating moments that matter. Christmas is such an exciting time of year in primary schools. From Nativity plays and carol concerts to exchanging Christmas cards and enjoying Christmas parties, there’s always something going on. But all this Christmas fun can have a significant impact on our planet. Here’s an example: if everyone in a class of 30 children gave a card to everyone else, you’d end up with nearly 1,000 cards – just in one class! And it takes one whole tree to make about 3,000 cards. So in a typical primary school that's four whole trees that need to be cut down. That’s a lot of trees we could save by finding new, creative ways to share holiday cheer.
