Our customer's device was crashing once a day... and they didn't even know it! When customers first deploy Memfault, we typically schedule a call with them to make sure everything is working well and get their early feedback. This time, we started reviewing the data with them and saw a glaring issue: devices were running out of memory and crashing regularly. This can be a tricky issue to debug: memory leaks play out over long periods of time, and are sometimes exhibited only under certain usage patterns. With Memfault, the issue was obvious. We chart memory usage for each device and across the whole fleet and the trend was unmistakable. We flagged it to our customer who was then able, using our heap analysis tools, to quickly find the offending allocation and fix the problem. We also suggested they add some assert calls you catch similar problems in the future. For me, this is the joy of working at Memfault. We work hand in hand with hardware innovators, and help them measurably improve their product's performance. Shoutout to our field engineering team (Gillian Minnehan, Patrick Wolfe, Jon Sharp, and Victor Lai), they make it look easy!

🎉 New product features released! Only 5 weeks left till New Year 🎆 - and still, our product and engineering teams are productive! 💪 Check out our two latest product updates! 👇 1️⃣Exclude events from calculations: You can now exclude specific events, like for example scheduled maintenance, from Performance Ratio calculations. This enhancement ensures your data is more precise and insightful. 2️⃣New yield loss calculation method: Yield loss can now be calculated based on irradiation, offering a detailed analysis of the potential yield achievable under optimal conditions. Sounds good, right? 😎

I often ask our application engineers, "What does the customer want?" This is actually not an easy question to answer. Often, they rely on the technical expertise of their suppliers to solve their most pressing concerns. And as suppliers, we need to think from the customers perspective about how they approach their business. - Are they focused on maximizing output? - Do they place the highest value on equipment reliability for uptime? - Is lowest price driving the decisions? - Do they need a little extra help to meet their sustainability targets? These questions can't be answered without talking to them... and listening to them. So next time, ask your customer what their KPI is. What's keeping them from sleeping at night? That's where the south begins. https://lnkd.in/gSUBjt7d
