A common struggle that most of us face is a never ending to do list...if you are also feeling overwhelmed by this, try the following: "A thought download" A thought download is a technique where you write down your thoughts to prevent them from swirling around in your head. This helps you manage feelings of overwhelm, especially when faced with a never-ending to-do list. So try this at the end of every week & here’s how to use it effectively: 👉 Prepare Materials: Grab your journal or a clean sheet of paper and find a quiet space. 👉 Focus and Breathe: Take a moment to breathe deeply and center yourself. 👉 Freewriting: Write down all the tasks and thoughts (personal and work related) on your mind without worrying about form, style, or grammar. Write every task however big or small. Just let it flow. 👉 Review and Categorize: Once done take a minute to review your list. Use different colors or markers to categorize tasks by priority (e.g., urgent & important, Important but not urgent, tasks that can be delayed or delegated). 👉 Create a Plan: Develop a tentative plan for tackling the most urgent tasks next week. 👉 Daily Reflection: At the end of each day, list what you’ve completed. Compare it with your initial list to see what was accomplished and what new tasks emerged. You will start seeing a pattern of how much you have accomplishing every day. You will also notice if you had to push back certain tasks due to other new tasks that became priority. Benefits 💡 Clear Your Mind: Free up mental space and reduce anxiety and overwhelm. 💡 Objective View: Prioritize and plan tasks more effectively. 💡 Improved Planning: Better understand your daily task dynamics and improve future planning. It also helps you realise which tasks take the most time. You will also realise where/when you need to say ‘no’. 💡 Better Prioritization: Reflect on accomplishments to balance task intake and focus. By regularly using thought downloads, you can effectively manage your tasks and reduce feelings of overwhelm, allowing for clearer reflection and prioritization. Love this technique! Another tip to enhance the effectiveness of thought downloads is to set a timer for 5-10 minutes while freewriting. It helps keep the flow going and prevents overthinking. Keep up the great work, Sanjukta! 💪🏼
Good one as roll towards weekend ;-)
This is a great technique and when I recently did something similar with my coach, I got a really clarity on my priorities and was finally able to start moving forward.
I have so much to do at the moment so will give this a go 👌🏻
I use this and suggest it to my clients all the time. It's so effective.
Love that you're talking about journaling. It's so good for overwhelm.
Great post, thanks for sharing, such a good habit to get our thoughts out of our head and written down!
I love this Sanjukta, it feels like a very effective way to bring some structure and clarity to an overwhelmed mind. Thanks!
I love this 'thought download' technique! I think one of the most under acknowledged and under celebrated areas is what we are actually accomplishing, which actually creates some of the overwhelm. What a great way to highlight your accomplishment patterns! We get to celebrate ourselves!
