To All Corporate Managers, A manager by definition is supposed to manage their team to ensure that the relevant tasks are completed efficiently. This doesn't give the manager any leeway of not having any technical skills. You can manage the team better if you know how to do the job yourself. I have mentioned this as I have not seen many managers attending any internal technical trainings happening in the different organizations. After all, there is a life beyond PMP and Scrum! Every engineer can relate to this. When we want to go to foreign deputation, we don't get a chance at all. When we don't want to travel anymore, we get a lot of travel opportunities. When we are looking for a new job, we don't get many offers. When we are happy with our current job, we are approached by different recruiters. Irony is so many founders, CEOs, directors and senior managers are talking about recently happened work stress incidents and how it is important to give priority to employee health and well-being. The worst advice you can get in corporate is that "Just Be Yourself". This might work in short term. However, during our professional tenure, we tend to work across many companies, with people from different background, with different technical capabilities. Adjusting ourselves with the surrounding (e.g. team members, company culture, etc.) will definitely help us in the long run. That's the opinion! 😊

The biggest challenge for a new manager is to maintain optimum distance with his/her subordinates. You don't want to be overfriendly with the team and at the same time you don't want to be isolated from the team. Although this is a well known fact, very few managers can actually claim to have this issue sorted!
