Embarking on a journey to revolutionize the assessment methodologies within my focus on cultivating practice-ready graduates, I am excited to share an editorial I penned back in 2018. Eagerly awaiting your insights, I pose a critical question: have we truly transitioned from the traditional curriculum, dictated by what instructors wished to teach, to a contemporary approach cantered on what students can demonstrably achieve in Outcome-Based Education (OBE) or more explicitly Competency-Based Medical Education (CBME)? In my sincere reflection, despite the extensive discussions surrounding this paradigm shift, our current educational system heavily reliant on what students can showcase, rather than what they can perform. Join me in revisiting this discourse and reshaping our perspectives on educational practices as we strive to mould graduates not merely fit to pass exams but truly fit to embark on the demanding journey of professional practice.

I found this slide from a 2017 presentation... It made me think about the answers to this question in 2017, compared to 2024. In 2017, a global pandemic and the resulting impact on CME/CE was not even remotely on our collective radar. We pivoted. And, since, much has changed. In 2024, the question could be better framed as: How should medical education be evolving? Medical education is planned and delivered by professionals who aim to close clinical practice gaps through evidence-based education to address learners' needs.
