Neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) devastate millions of lives, particularly in some of the world's poorest and most rural communities. For too long, diseases like visceral leishmaniasis and river blindness have been wreaking havoc, but now, coordinated efforts to eliminate these diseases are gaining traction. A new piece from The Economist explores the recent breakthroughs in the fight against NTDs. It's great to see The END Fund's Sam Mayer featured, highlighting how the "growing political consensus and evidence base" is driving an increase in philanthropic efforts to tackle NTDs. Key breakthroughs include: 💊 Innovative treatments: New drugs, including a potentially game-changing oral therapy for kala-azar, are being tested across Africa, with promising results. 🏥 Localised solutions: Non-profits like the Drugs for Neglected Diseases Initiative (DNDi) are leading clinical trials in affected areas, ensuring treatments are tailored to local needs. 🌟 Global momentum: A coordinated push from governments, non-profits, and donors is driving advancements in NTD treatment and elimination efforts. Read more about these critical efforts in The Economist linked in the comments below. ⬇️ #NTDs #HealthForAll #GlobalHealth #Philanthropy

Within the UK alone, 1 in 4 adults and 1 in 5 children live with obesity. The World Health Organization has declared obesity a global epidemic. Our Innovation Grant scheme has supported Dr Nicola Contessi Negrini's groundbreaking work developing a new human-based model of obesity. But what do you need to be able to build, replicate and verify such a model? Nicola and his team have received £7,000 which will be used to: - Develop and test new synthetic materials that act like the biological molecules and structures of the human body. - Grow the type of fat cells that live just under the skin, study how they develop from their earlier stages, and compare them with samples from real patients As well as a small £100 stipend for travel between the collaborators on this project, Imperial College London, and University of Cambridge. The cost of research can seem high, but the cost of doing nothing is even higher. By using donations to develop these non-animal approaches we are not only improving human healthcare for the future, we‘re also saving animal lives now. #NAMs #NATs #ObesityResearch

Great insights from The END Fund colleague Bridie Layden about the power of combining nutrition and NTD interventions to amplify impact! #nutrition #beatNTDs #theENDFund
Last week, I had the privilege of joining the #NutritionDialogues in Geneva, ahead of the Nutrition for Growth Summit. Amid the lively discussions, I was thrilled to hear consensus on a commitment to: 🌟 Breaking down funding silos 🌟 Creating accessible entry points for newcomers 🌟 Funding systemic, locally-led change These are all core principles we are championing at The END Fund! The numbers speak for themselves: investing $1 in nutrition generates a $23 return. Remarkably, the ROI for deworming is even higher, at $24-$42. When nutrition and neglected tropical disease (NTD) programs are integrated, the impact on communities multiplies, as we've seen through the Power of Nutrition partnership with Eleanor Crook Foundation and Ethiopia’s Ministry of Health. Thank you for the invitation, David Nabarro and 4SD Foundation! I am looking forward to continuing the conversation, and helping funders integrate some of these big opportunities into their philanthropic portfolios. #N4G #philanthropy
