Perhaps more municipalities preparing for future technologies and emergency responder communication enhancement systems requirements?? I have seen a lot more AHJ's recently that have been changing their requirements for emergency responder radio coverage requirements for IFC and NFPA compliance to be more inclusive of future or in some cases current i.e. FirstNet outside of LMR. Orange County as an example yesterday published their new requirements for emergency responder communication enhancement systems which had a host of new requirements but one among them speaks to this topic. It says "or any other dedicated Public Safety radio system(s) serving the building in question." I have to think that this sets the stage for potential perhaps new data centric frequencies and or devices these agencies use to respond needing to have coverage and bandwidth. The shoe will drop. Avoiding this type of attack on a fiber optic network can be achieved by eliminating all single points of failure. Automatics switching from multiple fiber optic routes between points on the network (route diversity) provides half of the solution. The other half includes redundancy of the fiber optic terminal equipment. Critical infrastructure should be treated just as we do with telecommunications networks.
