Love this way of showing what I believe not many people understand due to unconscious bias with status quo. It can be very difficult articulating the consequences of our status quo for the minorities and why we need DEI to bring fairness to everyone. Being Neurodivergent I struggle with a communication barrier every day. My raw thoughts are not always well articulated and I need time to process them into a way Neurotypicals can understand and it’s frustrating not being understood or worse misunderstood. This is what happens when people think that inclusion is a tick box exercise without understanding that it’s not just enough to hire DEI you also have to create an environment where DEI belongs. If not we leave hoping we can find a place where we belong and where people will take a step towards understanding us and not just shutting us down because it’s easier then taking a few minutes to understand.

Yes again another beautifully made infographic that illustrates the impact of the diversity problems that I have either witnessed or personally experienced. Ironically the intentions of the individuals or the system was usually good. But voicing, or even hinting at, the negative impacts of the gaps below, usually creates a gaslighting response. Hoping for a time when systems/individuals don’t confuse legitimate feedback that are focused on making improvements and moving forward, for disrespectful attacks that they gaslight. #diverseworkforce #psychologicalsafety #inclusion #belonging #implicitbias

One of the first exercises I work on with my clients on fostering more inclusive Franchise brands - is defining what that means. We must be honest about our understanding and orchestrate environments for learning. It’s how we move strategy from performative to impactful. Sharing this goodie by Arthur Chan - wonderfully stated. #HOTperspective #DiversifyFranchising

This diagram offers important insights for organizations to reflect on. As an African American with 20 years of experience in tech, ranging from startups to large enterprises, I’ve often been the only person who looks like me in the room. It’s always concerning to wonder why that is—why hasn’t this company attracted more Black talent? And more quickly, you learn whether people who look like you are truly valued and respected. In my experience, there is often little grace given to African Americans in tech for perceived missteps. Communication can feel stifled, feedback can be scarce, and the general care extended to others often feels absent. When you encounter mistreatment, it’s disheartening because there are few avenues for recourse—just another bad experience to chalk up. I’ve noticed a pullback in the tech industry’s diversity efforts since the push in 2020, and it saddens me. If your company doesn’t reflect the DEI commitments showcased on your website, it might be time to reevaluate your strategy. Dive deeper into the data to understand what’s really happening. Don’t be afraid to be bold. Remember, the data shows that companies with more diverse teams consistently see higher returns on investments, better products, and stronger project outcomes. The change may be adding Recruiters that reflect the change you seek as we typically see talent in everyone. Tip: If your team is having a referral drive to add more diverse candidates to the top of the funnel and you African American employees do not add people to the list, you know you have a problem. #wecanalwaysdobetter

Consultant @ Lived Experience Voices | Lived Experience Partnerships & Workforce | Reconciliation Action Plans | Inclusion & Cultural Safety Connecting people to create lasting change
I love when complex ideas can be distilled in simple ways. It's a common mistake to roll Reconciliation into a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion portfolio. Our relationship to First Nations Peoples has been deeply damaged through the ongoing impacts of colonisation. Repair of this relationship is not only the responsibility of non-Indigenous people, it's our obligation. This work isn't about us being inclusive to create Diversity. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people were here first. Lets face it, It's kind of arrogant for the newly arrived society (240 years compared to 60,000) to deem to 'include' First Nations. Reconciliation is a strategic and business imperative. It's the work of creating equity where it has been lacking, of embracing the discomfort of understanding our true history, and consciously changing our assumptions and attitudes that continue the harm so we can repair the relationship between First Nations Australians and non-Indigenous Australians. #ReconciliationAustralia #RAP #DiversityEquityInclusion #FirstNationsRights
