Head of Translational Innovation, Motilent - applying Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to global life science projects and programmes
GIQuant is deployed in #IBD clinics, research and #ClinicalTrials. Meet #Motilent 's leadership and science teams at #ECCO24 #Stockholm to learn more about quantitative measurement of GI motility in #crohns and #uc Email our conference coordination team at: info@motilent.io to book a slot. What is #GIQuant? #GIQuant generates a bowel wall motility heat map and score from very short, easy to capture, non-invasive, cine #MRI - the higher the GIQuant score the more motile the bowel wall in the selected area. Below left are coronal cine MRI of the same patient at 2 timepoints: baseline, top ; and follow-up, bottom . We see a suspiciously immotile bowel segment in the baseline image (lower right quadrant abdomen) which is selected as an ROI for observation pre and post treatment, in this case for Crohn's. The dysfunctional segment is also visible in the zoomed coronal and transverse MRI images. To the right are colored GIQuant motility heat maps for each time point - read these as same-plane overlays to the MRI - on these you can see the selected ROI. Subjectively, in the heat map images, we can clearly see more coloring across the bowel at follow-up compared to baseline, equating to higher motility at follow-up. This is visible at the ROI too. Quantitatively, the GIQuant score rises in the selected ROI from 83.4 at baseline to 308.1 at follow-up, indicating a substantially more motile bowel wall at follow up. 🎉 This year, we're celebrating the 150th anniversary of the birth of Nikolai Korotkov, a visionary whose invention has significantly advanced the field of medicine. 🏥 🔍 The blood pressure measurement method developed by this Russian surgeon represents a milestone in medical history. Known as Korotkov Sounds, these are produced during blood pressure measurement using a cuff and stethoscope, allowing doctors to monitor patients' blood pressure more accurately. This technique involves listening for specific sounds in the arteries as the cuff pressure is gradually released. These sounds, referred to as Korotkov phases, form the basis for an accurate reading of systolic and diastolic pressure. 💡 This innovative method revolutionized cardiac diagnostics, enabling early detection and treatment of numerous cardiovascular diseases. It's fascinating to note that modern technologies, such as digital blood pressure monitors, still rely on the principles discovered by Korotkov. 🌐 As we honor Korotkov's 150th birth anniversary, let's reflect on how this breakthrough has transformed healthcare, continuing to benefit millions globally. 🌟 #NikolaiKorotkov #MedicalHistory #HealthcareInnovation

Excited to share that I recently attended the CTR (Centre for Trophoblast Research) Annual Meeting at Churchill College in Cambridge. The discussions were incredibly insightful, focusing on the emerging models of human and non-human primate placental development. Many questions I had were answered during the talks, and the inspiring panel discussions helped me better understand the challenges we face when applying trophoblast models in the future. There are two key takeaways I'd like to share: 1. There were comments on placenta-on-chip models, highlighting interest in how these in vitro models can address questions regarding various cell types communication in placenta and placenta- maternal/fetal organs communication. 2. There was a strong call for standardized protocols and datasets, which are crucial for developing reliable models and fostering a better research community. It's inspiring to see the advancements in this critical area of research and to connect with experts who are driving innovation in understanding placental biology. #Research #PlacentalDevelopment #TrophoblastResearch

We are not slowing down‼ We have a second great news, Ebi Maleki from JCEThas also received funding for a PRELUDIUM project funded by the NCN Narodowe Centrum Nauki entitled "Heart Failure-Induced Alterations in Platelet Phenotype: Impact on Lung Microvascular Endothelial Barrier Integrity". This research aims to investigate how heart failure (HF) induces changes in platelet phenotype and the resulting effects on the integrity of the lung microvascular endothelial barrier. By understanding the mechanisms by which HF-altered platelets affect endothelial function, the project seeks to identify regulatory factors that could modulate the biological function of platelet-derived TGFβ1. Huge congratulations‼🥳🥂🎊

Senior Portfolio Manager @Philips // Design strategy to shape healthcare landscape with technological innovations
Helium (He) is typically used as a coolant for the superconducting magnets in MRI machines because of its extremely low boiling point (around -269°C or -452.2°F). However, it is a non-renewable resource, and its scarcity leads to increased costs and supply chain vulnerabilities. Additionally, #helium management in #mri machines involves complex infrastructure and maintenance. Philips BlueSeal magnet is industry-leading solution to Helium-Free MRI Technology and represents a significant advancement in medical imaging. It eliminates the dependence on helium, reducing operational costs and the need for frequent refills of liquid helium. This solution has a notable impact on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) criteria, particularly in the environmental domain. It offers a more sustainable and cost-effective alternative to traditional systems, decreases carbon footprint in usage and associated logistical transportation. The alleviated dependency on helium and reduced cost make MRI more accessible worldwide, which can enhance safety and diagnostic capabilities in underserved regions, contributing to better health outcomes and equity. Moreover, helium-free systems help healthcare facilities comply with stringent environmental regulations, align with corporate sustainability goals and reporting requirements, demonstrating commitment to sustainable practices and building stakeholder trust. With BlueSeal becoming more prevalent, we are shifting to a helium-free MRI world, and creating significant positive impact in the society and in the future.
