Brands are very much aware of each component costing involved in manufacturing of apparel due to huge turnover, available resources and product knohow ,having smart employees know the fact that a manufacturer needs min 5%-7% overhead and 20/25% gross profit to service buyers . Not to forget the penalties levied by big brands on delayed shipment by even 1-2 days . No manufacture is vertical and is dependent on so many vendors to make one product , how can he take 100% control of delivery date always ! The cost of sampling and designing , compliance factories , skilled staff , risk of rejection of goods is all on manfacturer , penalties and credit facility to buyers . Some Brands come across aggressively we give only 7/8% margin to manfacturer in open costing . Maybe economies of scale makes it viable ? Agreed it’s a competitive world n production is surplus hence brands are pushing manufacture to deliver cheaper and cheaper . But brands need to understand in long term they will need reliable manfacturer as partners to make quality goods , timely delivery , proactive fabric n design sourcing and invest in growth expansion vision with brands gradually ! Brands want to spend only on marketing but they also need a good manufacturing setup n backend weaving and process houses which are integral part of manufacturing .
