Happy #ForestDay! This year's theme, 'Forests and Innovation: New Solutions for a Better World,' set by the UN General Assembly, reminds us of the incredible role forests play in shaping our lives. Did you know forests are more than just trees? They're the unsung heroes behind your wardrobe and daily essentials! Ever heard of viscose and lyocell? These sustainable textile fibres are derived from wood pulp, like our responsibly sourced dissolving pulp, Verve, ensuring your clothes are not just trendy but also ethical! And let's talk innovation! This spans from Sappi’s glossy, easily recyclable flexible paper packaging to our technology which extracts biochemicals and biomaterials from trees. With the latter, we produce Valida, 100% natural and biodegradable, perfect for replacing harmful microplastics in skincare products! With the high functionality of our flexible packaging papers, they are now even used in sustainable chocolate wrappers, yoghurt pots, coffee packaging etc. So, as we celebrate today, let's honour the remarkable contributions forests make to our lives and commit to protecting these invaluable ecosystems.

Last week, I had the opportunity to talk about #sustainability at the Modern Meadow Sustainability Summit with other global thought leaders across multiple industries. Evonik is an investor in this exciting company that is #leadingbeyondchemistry and introducing new materials and processes to enable a healthier future through Trademark products such as Bio-Tex as a luxury leather replacement, Bio-VERA as a 100% vegan and 100% upcycled material leather alternative, and Bio-Coll@gen as a Type III collagen alternative for personal care products – all made from tailored, plant-based proteins. As much as I can geek-out on products, here are some key takeaways for me from some of the sustainability partners that spoke alongside me: --reduce, reuse, recycle is still applicable for sustainability conversations; much better than take, make, and waste --recycling in the garment industry is hard, ensuring that reuse happens is valuable to people and the planet --evolution, growth, agility, transformation are less scary words than change --circularity is important for material science, reclaiming the chemistry inside; biodegradability is important for molecules that are not captured nor re-used --financing sustainability initiatives remains difficult without an understanding of the true cost of our activities --Tory Burch handbags blow my mind 🤯 👜 Thanks to all of you on stage; listening is always learning experience; I hope that I was able to provide insight from the chemical industry perspective and encourage all of you rock stars! #evonik, Evonik, Evonik Personal Care John Frazier, Steven Rochlin, Aurelia Figueroa, Dave Stangis, Libby Bernick, Federica Marchionni, Tricia Carey, Rachel Van Metre Kibbe, Jennifer Travaglini David Williamson, Jeff Smith, Pinky Lakhia, ACC, Anna Jain Bakst Catherine Roggero-Lovisi, Ann Lee-Jeffs

www.piranda-clothes.com Sustainability in the context of Piranda clothes can be approached from several angles, focusing on the environmental, social, and economic impacts of the clothing's production, use, and disposal. Here are key aspects to consider: 1. Material Selection Organic Fabrics: Using organic cotton, hemp, or linen that are grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilizers. Recycled Materials: Incorporating recycled fibers, such as recycled polyester made from plastic bottles. Biodegradable Fabrics: Opting for materials that decompose naturally, like Tencel (lyocell), bamboo, or wool.

"The power of a product that doesn't last lies in its ability to inspire a business model that does." Over the course of this week we have discussed the power of biodegradable materials to build new kinds of business models. Our hope is that these stories of businesses who found success in sustainable alternatives will inspire you to explore similar opportunities too. From what we have seen in the market, one thing is certain: transitions such as climate change allow you to find opportunities for new business. Opportunities that allow you to outdo the competitors that resist change, and find new markets that no one has dared to explore yet. Biodegradable materials are a great example of this, as their short lifespans open up the possibility for entirely new types of products and business models. From cost savings to new product features, your organization can create new business value by innovating for impact. So let's dive into biodegradables as an example of this philosophy: 𝗕𝗶𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲... 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁'𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁?! "Decomposition of the biodegradable materials is beneficial to the soil as it increases its fertility as well as improves the soil structure." https://lnkd.in/eVF5c7QP 𝗨𝗽𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗶𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲 "Businesses can save on waste disposal fees, avoid penalties for non-compliance with environmental regulations, and tap into new market opportunities driven by consumer demand for sustainable products." https://lnkd.in/ewXt3f5K 𝗕𝗶𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 "While many packaging products purport to be biodegradable, there is confusion over what the term means." https://lnkd.in/erur4jDK What sustainable opportunities are you pursuing? Or are you exploring different transitions? Let's share ideas! 💬 #Innovation #BusinessModels #Sustainability
