I’ve been awake for the last 36 hours, but not once did I wish I was asleep or truly even think about taking a break and getting some sleep. I’m not saying that’s a good thing, and it’s definitely not sustainable, but I’m just sharing this fact to explain just how engaged I’ve been over the last 24 hours.
The past 24 hrs has been a mission. A mission that started back on Saturday 6th January, at Banbury Rugby Club, when I was discussing with friends and colleagues of mine what we could possibly do to create a 5-digit fundraising event before the 16th February as part of an accumulator challenge for our local hospice.
The hospice where I sat with my Dad watching Cheltenham Festival back in March 2007. Enjoying the comforts and care they provided in his final 2 weeks with us. Where I first properly realised the finality of death, as I experienced the worst moment of my whole life watching my Dad take his last breath, having said goodbye forever.
A hospice, as you can probably guess, that means a lot to me and my family. Such was and is my desire to win this accumulator challenge and raise as much money as possible for them, knowing that today or tomorrow or anytime, they could be making the same meaningful difference in someone else’s life, just as they did in ours.
So, an idea that spawned just 5 weeks ago, today tuned into over £11,500 being raised for the hospice. Such is the amazing creativity, capability and execution of the people I get to spend most of my time with.
Amazing people. Competent people. Great people. People who, when you present them with a challenge, they don’t say no or say why it can’t be done, they ask why we’re doing it and then if it means enough to them they’ll find a way of making it happen. When you have people like this around you, you can do anything.
Firstly, it’s important to acknowledge your own part in this set-up. If we’re to follow ‘Success Principle #1’ and ‘Take 100% Responsibility’ for all our failures and shortcomings, then the same must be done for all the good things. You had a big part to play. It’s in-part, because of you. So you’re allowed to feel great! Give yourself a pat on the back and accept it.
Then, be grateful for everyone who makes a goal (or dream), become a reality. The people you couldn’t do it without. The family, the friends, the colleagues and teammates, the family and friends of your colleagues and teammates, the customers, suppliers, partners, and all business connections, who decide they want to help. They make it possible. They say “YES!” when you ask for help. They are the best!

3moJimmy Lloyd from the link above, I am really moved by your back story for this. To commit to 5km every single day, to reflect the relentless grind and toll that families living with life limiting disease face every day, is absolutely brilliant and awe inspiring. Huge respect. 👏 👏 👏
