Suicide is a profound public health crisis, claiming over 720,000 lives globally each year. Each loss carries significant emotional, social, and economic impacts, touching lives and communities far beyond the individual. To address this, we need to change how we talk about and approach suicide. It's time to move from a place of silence and stigma to one of openness, understanding, and support. We urge everyone to start conversations about suicide and prevention. Every dialogue, no matter how small, helps build a more compassionate and informed society. Let's take action together. #WorldSuicidePreventionDay #SuicidePrevention #WHOFides

Today is #988Day, and this year’s theme is "No Judgment. Just Help." The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline provides critical, judgment-free support to anyone in need. For individuals living with epilepsy, this lifeline is especially important. Studies show that those with epilepsy are at a higher risk of attempting or dying by suicide compared to the general population. At Epilepsy Reach Foundation, we are deeply committed to raising awareness and ensuring that every individual, no matter their condition, knows that help is always available. If you or someone you know is struggling, reach out. There is no shame in asking for help. #YouAreNotAlone #EpilepsyAwareness #NoJudgmentJustHelp #988Lifeline #MentalHealthMatters

September is Suicide Prevention Month. Please listen and care for those who express sadness, loneliness or any signs of suicide. It does not have to be a conversation, it can be a simple act of caring or time to listen. A cry for help may come in different ways. Be alert of family, friends, co workers, we do not always know what others are struggling with. The feeling of losing someone is hard. If you hear or see someone that needs help, please reach out or guide them to a professional that can assist. Check in on loved ones, friends and family. There are many different helplines, help centers that can guide and hopefully make the difference in that persons life and thoughts. https://lnkd.in/ePZy2M4K #NationalAllianceonMentalIllness #SuicidePreventionMonth

Honoured to be invited to speak in Parliament again about knife crime. We often blame and praise point fingers when discussing the rise in violence, but this overlooks the systemic issues at play. Other nations, even those with high population densities, have successfully managed knife crime by treating it as a public health issue with notable decreases in violence as a result. Just as we use medication to prevent illness, we must adopt a preventive approach to violence. It's time to ask why our government waits to act until after violence occurs rather than funding preventative measures, which starts in homes and policy changes in schools We need to shift the narrative—treating knife crime not just as a street issue but as a public health crisis. Through preventative measures, it can implement education, mental health support, and community initiatives to safeguard our young people

We spoke with WTIC News Talk 1080 about the importance of 211. Did you know that in Connecticut last year, 211 responded to more than 1.7 million requests from residents, with a spike in need for basic needs like food, housing, shelter/homeless assistance and mental health and addiction assistance? The spike in need has to translate into an increase in funding for this critical resource, so we can decrease hold times and increase the number of contact specialists available to answer Connecticut residents' calls. https://lnkd.in/drCNKzjj Reach out to your legislators and let them know that that this is important: https://lnkd.in/dpcy9zDm Connecticut Senate Republicans, Connecticut State Senate Democrats, Connecticut House Democrats, Connecticut House Republicans
