There's so much to learn and it helps challenge stereotypes! 📚💡 Next, why not support Indigenous-owned businesses? Seek out their products and give them a shoutout. It's a great way to contribute to their economic empowerment! 💪🛍️ We can also use our voices and platforms to amplify Indigenous voices. Share their stories, experiences, and achievements. Let's make sure their voices are heard loud and clear! 🗣️📢 If there are any cultural events happening in your area, make it a point to attend and show your love and support. It's a fantastic way to learn, appreciate, and celebrate diversity together! 🎉🌈 Lastly, let's be advocates for Indigenous rights. Stand up against discrimination and support initiatives that address land rights, language preservation, and environmental stewardship. Together, we can make a difference! ✊🌎💚 So let's not just acknowledge this day, let's actively work towards creating a more inclusive and equitable society. Today, on Indigenous Peoples' Day, let us pause to honor the land and the people who have called it home for generations. This morning, I acknowledge that I am on the ancestral lands of the Erie, Huron, Seneca, and Shawnee tribes, among others, in what is now known as Cleveland, Ohio. Indigenous Peoples’ Day is not only about celebrating the vibrant indigenous cultures that continue to thrive but also reflecting on the painful history of oppression faced by Native American communities in the United States and the inspiring resilience of these communities. When we do the work of DEI, we must acknowledge that there continues to be significant opportunity for greater inclusion and equity for indigenous peoples. We have to raise awareness of the history, it’s longstanding impacts, and ensure their voices are heard, and their rights are upheld.
