Are you a university student interested in corrosion of reinforcing steel and attending the American Concrete Institute Fall Convention in Philadelphia November 3-7?
As the Chairman of Committee 222 on Corrosion of Metals in Concrete, I am inviting you to attend our committee meeting being held on Tuesday, November 5, from 2:00 to 5:00 PM in the Grand Ballroom Salon G at the Marriott Philadelphia Downtown.
I would also love to meet you Monday between 11:30 AM - 12:00 PM in Franklin Hall (Level 4) near convention registration (same room as student competitions) for an informal gathering to introduce ourselves, hear about your interests, and answer any questions you may have about the committee. I want to hear about your passions, learn about your experiences, and see how we can get the next generation involved in our work!
All are welcomed to the meeting - whether you want to get involved, are curious about the current initiatives, or just want to meet people that like to think and talk about corrosion. Committee work has been incredibly rewarding for me and I’d like you to experience that!
The colleagues, friends, and mentors you meet in meetings and at conferences can last a lifetime. I’ve had the opportunity to learn from some of the brightest in the industry through connections made by simply introducing myself and asking questions. Make sure to introduce yourself to someone that has impacted your studies at the convention and strike up a conversation with a random person next to you. You’d be surprised what (or whom) you might find.
I can’t remember who I first saw systemically inviting students to their committee meetings in the past. I think it’s a fantastic idea! Forgive me for borrowing the idea without credit. If it was you, or you know who it was, please tag yourself or them (or message me and I will give them a shout out for the initiative)!
