From a workforce development standpoint, we are seeing across regions the need and demand for healthcare professional. The pandemic was hard on all of us but I think we often forget the long standing impact to our frontline healthcare professionals. In addition in 2022, only 5.7% of medical professionals identified as Black or African-American. However, 70% of Black doctors in the US are HBCU graduates. HBCU medical schools help create a diverse and highly skilled healthcare workforce and conduct vital research that benefits society. Investment into healthcare, healthcare professional, and our HBCU medical schools are more important than ever. Well done Bloomberg Philanthropies
Today, Bloomberg Philanthropies is making the largest-ever gift to America’s four historically Black medical schools to grow their endowments. Our latest commitment, building on our $100 million gift in 2020 to reduce the burden of debt for medical students across these schools, aims to strengthen their mission to diversify the medical field and train the next generation of doctors.
