"The task of building a better world belongs to all people. On International Volunteer Day for Economic and Social Development, we honour the women and men who devote their time, energy and skills to make our world a healthier, more peaceful and humane place for all. Whether responding to natural disasters, supporting communities in conflict or working to alleviate poverty, the selflessness and courage of volunteers shine through. And we are reminded that even the smallest acts have the power to change lives. ... Volunteers embody the best of humanity. I am thankful I was allowed to participate in a high level UN initiated peacebuilding meeting in New York, UN Plaza, on 12-13th December 2024. The UN Dept of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs invited CSOs across the globe to attend the 2nd CSO-UN Dialogue on Peacebuilding. 2023 was the first Dialogue meeting. The overall goal.and purpose: To find meaningful and effective ways of working together in all process of peacebuilding development and funding levels; decision-making processes, and strategic planning and implementation levels. Wow! UN Agencies are seriously considering doing development differently - it's a long short, you know, beuracracy, and all. But we must have Hope n Perseverance 125 + participants attended; only 2 of us from PNG, and 2 others from the Pacific Island nations. Great knowledge sharing and straight forward discussions took place, and the Organisors took notice. An outcome report which synthesizes key takeaway from.the dialogue will be sent in the near future which I will share with anyone of you who are interested. Big takeaway for me and I did tell the participants.at my group discussion was that the women's group I am a member of as Co-founder, Mentor, and Supporter, Kup Women for Peace from Simbu province, was doing Women, Peace, Security (WPS) through peacebuilding with gendered lense/ approacch beginning in 2000 without realizing WPS was a Program in the UN Development Agencies. Only about 5 years or so we heard about WPS in PNG. So when they celebrate 25 years Anniversary in the UN Plaza in 2025 Kup Women for Peace will also be celebrating 25 years of peacebuilding work, which started in year 2000, grounded up, covering all areas of human rights and working with both govt, community leadership structures, Faith Based Organizations (especiallythe CatholicChurch), and Development partners who came on board in 2024. They are change agents, a powerful community movement, started by three women who dared to challenge the status quo of male leadership in tribal fights situation, and gender based violence To my Managers in TEPPNG, when you allowed me to participate in such a meeting with the UN, you were supporting peacebuilding and.human rights work in PNG by 5 women's groups, and at national advocacy level, these Human Rights Defenders.continue to work.hard as Volunteers to bring about peaceful.and productive communities, living and working in harmonious communities; I am Co-founder, and Supporter of these groups. Kudos to Peacebuilders and Human Rights Defenders in Papua New Guinea!

On this #WorldHumanitarianDay, we reflect on the immense suffering caused by war and conflict, having in mind that we have the highest number of armed conflicts since World War II. It's a moment to honor the incredible work and tireless efforts of humanitarians around the world who respond to crises and alleviate suffering. Humanitarians on the ground provide immediate assistance to those in desperate need, while we, as peacebuilders, work towards ending the violence and addressing the causes of the underlaying issues to create sustainable pathways to peace. It is also a moment to acknowledge the critical efforts of local women groups and networks that are often the first respondents in crises. As we celebrate the courage and commitment of humanitarians worldwide, let us also highlight the importance of integrating gender perspectives into humanitarian responses and peacebuilding efforts. Congratulations to all humanitarians who are on the frontlines. And, to my fellow peacebuilders who tirelessly work to create inclusive and lasting peace. Together, we can make a profound impact. #WorldHumanitarianDay #HumanitarianAid #Peacebuilding #WPS #ConflictResolution #SustainablePeace #WomenInPeace #GlobalInitiative #InclusivePeace

As we reflect on #WorldHumanitarianDay2024, we are reminded of the profound impact that conflict has on innocent lives and the resilience of those working tirelessly to build peace in the world’s most challenging environments. In 2023 alone, the effects of violence were felt deeply, with 444 aid workers becoming victims of attacks across 235 incidents. South Sudan, Haiti, and Ukraine stand out as particularly high-risk areas where the need for peacebuilding is more urgent than ever. In light of these challenges, it is essential to emphasise the critical role of localization in peacebuilding efforts. Localization empowers local organisations and communities, allowing them to take the lead in peace initiatives, thereby strengthening the impact of these efforts. This approach ensures that responses are more closely aligned with local needs and cultural contexts. At Inclusive Peace, our collaboration with civil society is geared towards strengthening the impact and sustainability of locally-led peacebuilding initiatives. Localization in peacebuilding, development, and humanitarian work is grounded on the claim that principles of both justice and effectiveness demand a transfer of power from international to local actors, and thus a change in the current donor–recipient relationship. On this World Humanitarian Day, Inclusive Peace extends its deepest gratitude and congratulations to all frontline workers whose unwavering dedication continues to support communities in crisis, including in their efforts to pursue sustainable peace. 🌍 🕊

SONGS OF HUMANITY "As we celebrate World Humanitarian Day, we honor the courageous men and women who risk everything to save lives, alleviate suffering, and bring hope to the most vulnerable. We recognize the tireless efforts of humanitarians who toil in the shadows, often without recognition or reward. Today, we stand in solidarity with the displaced, the marginalized, and the oppressed. We acknowledge the resilience of those who've lost everything, yet still hold onto hope. We celebrate the selfless aid workers, volunteers, and organizations who've dedicated their lives to serving others. Let us recommit ourselves to the principles of humanity, neutrality, impartiality, and independence. Let us strive for a world where everyone has access to basic human rights, dignity, and well-being. As we mark this day, we remember that humanitarianism is not just a calling, but a collective responsibility. We all have a role to play in making the world a better place. Let us embrace this responsibility with compassion, empathy, and courage.

🌍 United in Hope, Strength in Blue 💙 United Nations Day, October 24 As we commemorate UN Day, let's reflect on what the United Nations truly represents. It’s not just offices, premises, or conferences; it's us—the collective strength of individuals united in purpose and action. The iconic blue of the UN symbolizes hope, peace, and progress. Despite the challenges, misunderstandings, and obstacles we face globally, the UN remains a beacon of possibility. Every initiative, from strengthening maternal health to supporting vulnerable communities, showcases how change is possible when we come together with a shared vision. Let’s take that crucial step toward unity instead of waiting for others to create positive change for us. Together, we can turn hope into action and foster a brighter future. #UNDay #HopeInAction #BlueForChange #UNFPA #GlobalGoals

Why Young Women Must Be at the Heart of Peace Efforts Women in Africa have long borne the brunt of conflicts, displacement, violence, and the collapse of communities. Yet they have also played some of the most critical roles in peacebuilding, often quietly and at the grassroots level. From Liberia to Burundi, women have shown that sustainable peace is impossible without their voices. Despite these contributions, women remain glaringly absent from formal negotiations. Globally, fewer than 10% of peace negotiators are women. In Africa, many peacebuilding processes continue to exclude young women, especially those from refugee and stateless communities, leaving their perspectives and the transformative solutions they bring out of decision-making spaces. Why Must This Change? Excluding young women not only perpetuates inequalities but also weakens the effectiveness of peace agreements. Research shows that when women are included, peace deals are more likely to succeed and last longer. Women bring perspectives rooted in lived experiences, addressing the unique challenges faced by those most affected by conflict. As we work toward the African Union’s Silencing the Guns agenda by 2030, there is an urgent need to prioritize the inclusion of young women. They must not only have a seat at the table but also be empowered to lead dialogues, mediate conflicts, and advocate for structural changes.
