"When you wake up, think about those people you really love and really enjoy spending time with. And make that your aim. Don't go fighting for money and things and stuff. It's all about people and about love." – Darrell McDonald Sarcoma UK are deeply saddened by the death of Darrell McDonald, an extraordinary advocate and the Roger Wilson Inspiration of the Year award recipient at the 2024 Shining Star Awards. Diagnosed with synovial sarcoma on his 40th birthday, Darrell turned his experience into a mission—raising awareness, pushing for earlier diagnosis, and supporting others through his book Straight Red?, which continues to fund vital sarcoma research. Despite undergoing intensive treatment, Darrell remained a passionate voice in our 2024 Sarcoma Awareness Month campaign, sharing his story to highlight the urgent need for better sarcoma recognition. His advocacy extended to improving GP training, ensuring future patients receive earlier diagnoses. We extend our deepest condolences to his wife Amy, children Maya and Theo, and all who loved Darrell. 💙 To read more, please visit https://lnkd.in/eVjRAN7N
I was so lucky to work closely with Darrell and share our love of F1. A brilliant colleague who was at the top of his game; exceptional with numbers, commercially astute and focussed, strategic thinker, very supportive and caring, not afraid of challenging, so personable, great sense of humour, always ready with a smile even when faced with his greatest challenge of all. I will miss him. My heart goes out to Darrell’s family at this difficult time. RIP DJ OPTIC
Such sad news. He was a really nice guy and a pleasure to work with. The Awesomesauce Marketing team and I were so sad to hear the news.
Incredibly sad news. His positivity was infectious.
Rest in peace you brave soul 🙏
This is so very sad. Darrell was a genuinely lovely, thoroughly decent and unbelievably positive guy — our paths didn’t often cross at Barnardo's, but the few times they did were a joy.
