On-Air Design, Lifestyle and Tablescape Expert I Designer I Decor Shop Owner I Brand Ambassador I Public Speaker
Math was never my favourite subject—I was more of an art and drama gal—but did you know that great design often involves a bit of number-crunching? And not just the rule of decorating in threes. From figuring out the perfect height to hang art, to calculating the ideal distance between your coffee table and sofa, math plays an important role in making spaces feel just right. Here are a few of my go-to formulas that you can apply to any space: Art Placement: When hanging art over a piece of furniture, the bottom of the art should be 6-8 inches above the furniture. Art hung too high looks lost. Art Sizing: Choose art that is between 2/3 and 3/4 the width of the furniture below it. Coffee Table Placement: Keep it 18 inches from your sofa—close enough to reach your coffee mug, but far enough to avoid bumping into it. Lighting: Hang chandeliers or pendants 30 - 36 inches above your dining table. So, next time you redecorate your space, remember, there’s a bit of math magic behind getting it right. And if you want a little help solving any design problems, I would love to help!

The last thing we advise you to do before you start chatting to a kitchen company is make a mood board. Go through the glossy magazines and cut out pictures that reflect the look and feel you want for your kitchen. Focus on colour, style, features etc. You should include textures and wood-grains. Look for ideas on layout and colour and material combinations. This will give the kitchen company a real insight into how you are picturing your new kitchen and will help them achieve your goal – a dream kitchen. #ksa #kitchenspecialistsasociation #kitchenmoodboard #newkitchen

While designing this sideboard, I had to think through its functionality; What’s it purpose? Where could it be used? Who will use this product? It’s commonly said that “ when the purpose of a thing isn’t known, its abuse is inevitable “ In my thoughtfulness, I knew the sideboard could be used for storage, display of decor, organization , entertainment of guests. It all depends on the user. Design requires you think as though you’re the user; having the privilege of experiencing a product before its use shows a thought through design. Getting to see its use got me smiling - purpose achieved!!! #userexperience #interiordesign #sideboard #cribsandspaces #furniture #productdesign
