Saronic Technologies’ Post

“As cheap missiles, drones, and other weapons enable bad actors to harass the world’s oceans on a scale not seen in generations, unmanned vehicles queued to convoy by American leaders will allow our economy to flourish despite dark waters ahead.” ICYMI – Saronic’s Daniel Stefanus and Palantir Technologies’ Shyam Sankar co-authored an insightful piece on the increasing threat to global maritime trade posed by non-state actors, and the role unmanned surface vessels (USVs) can play in countering these threats, drawing on lessons from WWII strategies and emphasizing the need for technological innovation to safeguard economic interests. Excited to pen my first piece back in the defense world with Shyam Sankar at Palantir Technologies! Unmanned systems will be more than sensor and maritime strike platforms. Their scale and interconnectedness will transform our ability to protect global shipping as Houthi-style attacks on merchant vessels become more and more common. It was great working with Shyam and the Palantir team on this, and I'm grateful to everyone who helped bring this article to life. After a year at Saronic Technologies I know we're only at the beginning of the unmanned maritime revolution, and it can't come fast enough as threats to our peace and way of life grow in every theater. Impressive perspective, Daniel! The parallels to WWII strategies combined with cutting-edge tech like USVs make for a compelling read. Safeguarding global trade in 'dark waters' truly highlights the need for innovation that’s as smart as it is swift. Looking forward to seeing how these efforts transform maritime security!

Better multiband distributed radars and electro optical sensors will be the key differentiator in winning in this contested environment. Processing that data with better AI to see patterns rather than the current methodologies will be key.
