I promise I'll post about my actual job (we have a new video to share about Mainframe mod and GenAI!) but as summer winds to a close I wanted to share a charity opportunity related to Golf: https://lnkd.in/g2i6mqfG Ultimately this is about helping kids lead healthier lives and is related to the amazing work that Jack and Barbara Nicklaus have done across the world to help kids heal and thrive with their Play Yellow initiative. My Wife Ashley and her colleague Kelli are going to play 72 holes of golf in one day and they are going to make it rain birdies. If you have a bit of a gambling mindset, you can make a donation based on the number of birdies they're going to make. You can also make an up-front donation. Note that this is focused on Colorado - ask your local pro if something is happening near you! Why is this on LinkedIn? Two reasons - first - this is really the only social media I do. I do so little I don't know if this actually counts as social media. Second - having married a professional golfer I've learned a lot about golf that has surprised me. Watching Ashley and her friends and colleagues navigate a male-dominated world (5% of PGA professionals are women. 5%!) is in many ways a clearer lens to the same challenges we see in technology. The backlash we've seen in some pockets of the world against fostering inclusion - one person's opinion here - ignores the reality that a diversity of thought and opinion makes teams better. Here's a golf example - when you're taking a golf lesson, you are incredibly vulnerable and it can be intimidating - no single approach works for everyone. Finding a coach that resonates with you (and this can be especially hard for women coming to the game, or children wanting to learn) is critical to your experience. There is not a long line to draw between this phenomenon and what we see in technology as leaders, mentors and peers. Also, golf is fundamentally a game of integrity - I've seen remarkable examples of leadership and integrity on the course (look up "Sahith Theegala penalty" for an unbelievable example recently) and again it reminds me of all the things we try to do as leaders and professionals in business. I've always liked the phrase "integrity is what happens when no one is looking" and if golf can help me and others to model that, there's more to the game than I thought. Let me close by saying - for those in the Northern Hemisphere - enjoy the last gasps of summer, whatever brings you outside to do so!
On Tuesday, September 24th, I will be participating in the inaugural Colorado PGA Birdie Bash fundraiser event to raise funds for PGA REACH Colorado and Children's Hospital Colorado. I, alongside other Colorado PGA Professionals, will play 72 holes of golf in one day at The Ranch Country Club in an attempt to make as many birdies as possible! Please consider making a pledge per birdie to support these impactful organizations. YOUR GIFT MATTERS and will help us reach our goal of raising $110,000! To make a pledge, please visit: https://lnkd.in/gWWgpdNi

Donors have a unique ability to strengthen the work of #nonprofits through their own #philanthropic journey. As TPI helps #funders make determinations on which organizations are right for them, we also help them make sure their #grantees are effective, using many of the same parameters outlined on Exponent Philanthropy's blog. Excited to finally see my first book in print "Nonprofit Collaborations in Diverse Communities" with amazing colleagues Abdul Samad and Shariq Siddiqui. "Using a community-based participatory research approach, Shariq A. Siddiqui, Abdul Samad, and Rafeel Wasif investigate the challenges and opportunities in collaborations between nonprofit organizations. With a focus on diverse minority communities, particularly under-resourced, racialized and stigmatized nonprofits and Muslim-led organizations, this book provides different approaches to connect them with the broader philanthropic community." https://lnkd.in/d5H4jPx6

Some thoughts on how to use your time to benefit your annual giving program overall. Lets talk annual giving A complete fundraising plan ensures that donors are moving through the cycle of cultivation (Identify: Engage: Ask: Steward). When you are working with major donors you work to move each prospect through each of these stages at their own pace. Did you know that you can apply this same logic to your annual giving program as well? How are you going to interact with this group of donors to help move them through a cycle of cultivation? If you think of appeal fundraising as the epicenter for annual giving, then you just need to work to build the rest of your plan around this crescendo. #AMPO #AnnualGiving #NonprofitFundraising #DonorEngagement #Philanthropy #FundraisingAppeal #CharityImpact #NonprofitSector #StrategicPhilanthropy #DonorStewardship #NonprofitSuccess

I help create a legacy of success through effective leadership by guiding, mentoring, and training a team of executives
As I work for National Capital Area Council, BSA, I know firsthand that Scouting has a positive impact on youth and our community. A recent study conducted by The Harris Poll shows that those who have been involved in Scouting as youth or adults have what we are calling a “Scouting edge.” Scouts and Scouting alumni are more likely to engage in positive behaviors and are more likely to act in ways that are considered ethical and moral. Scouting also develops one’s leadership abilities and the competency to help others accomplish their goals. Good citizenship and helping other people at all times are tenants of Scouting and are part of the program at every level. This study confirms that Scouts and alumni are significantly more likely to vote, volunteer in the community, and take an active role in charitable organizations. To learn more about the Scouting Edge: https://lnkd.in/dMN4ZR6K I invite you to join me in support of Scouting by - Joining. Volunteering. Did you know that Black communities receive only 1% of all community foundation funding, leaving them underfunded by $2 billion, according to the National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy? We want to help raise awareness to the campaigns that are helping to bridge the gap in funding for Black-led nonprofits. We’ve compiled 5 helpful resources to boost your fundraising: Giving Gap, Givebutter, #Give828, YOUNG BLACK & GIVING BACK INSTITUTE, and BackBlack, all working to close funding gaps across the sector. Join us in raising awareness by tagging a Black-led organization and reposting this to help amplify these valuable resources. 💰🌱 #BlackPhilanthropyMonth #SupportBlackNonprofits #CommunityImpact #Philanthropy
