Last week the body of Thomas Robison was discovered in the Grand Canyon. His disappearance had been covered by friend of THE ROCK FIGHT Joe Potoczak in Paddling Magazine, which prompted Justin Housman and I to talk about the story on the show a few weeks back. The discovery of his body, paddle and life jacket fill in a few details but raise more questions as well. This Thanksgiving morning, I tackled the Memphis Turkey Trot, a four-mile race I’d been training for since August 1st. My goal was to finish in 23:40 (an average pace of 5:55 per mile). To get there, I shed 20 pounds and mixed in some fun training hacks—like running with an altitude mask and weight vest. I felt great this morning, fully prepared after a good night's sleep. But sometimes, the best plans hit unexpected traffic—literally. A traffic jam on the way to the race meant I started 7 minutes late, finding myself behind many of the kind folks walking the course. My first two miles averaged 6:25, navigating through the crowd, but once the path cleared, I managed to push the last two miles at 5:50 per mile. I didn’t hit my time goal, but I’m grateful for the journey. Four months of commitment and discipline were worth it. Most importantly, my family was there to cheer me on—making the day even more fun! Today, I’m reminded of what truly matters: - I’m thankful for my family. - I’m thankful for my health. - And I’m eternally thankful for my salvation through Jesus.
