Matthew Malone, CFA, our head of investment management recently spoke at SuperInvestor in Monaco about how #familyoffices should approach building a #privatemarkets portfolio.
How should a family office build a private markets portfolio? At SuperReturn in Monaco earlier this month, Oksana Tiedt and Monica Monajem and I tackled the tough questions that family offices need to answer before they invest. Interested in hearing takeaways from the panel? Schedule time with me here: https://lnkd.in/ebSxtAk4 Thanks Mehmet B for putting this great event together and Kirk Rostron for your hospitality!

Why am I in Amsterdam? Well, the main reason is Clémence 😉 But there are other important reasons. People close to me know that I always wanted to go abroad. My core drive is to seek deep truths. Freeing myself from being tied to one culture was a privilege I have aimed for since I was a child. And for me it paid off: It’s scary how much my behavior is influenced by the culture I am in. This also plays into Morningscore. I want it to be an international company. Having employees from different cultures (which we already do) but also being in more physical locations is a forcing mechanism to become international. And finally, there is also a bigger business plan with all of this. Amsterdam is the international business hub of Europe. Will write more about the plan in my next post ;)

The first 100 days of my assignment at BudgetThuis in Amsterdam have flown by! Time flies when you’re having fun, right? Given the international aspect of this assignment, I’ll continue this post in English :) The assignment touches on all aspects of organizational challenges: clarifying roles (who does what), defining processes (how things should be done), and optimizing collaboration (structures). But also: how do you ensure that the potential within people in the organization is truly utilized, how do you build strong teams? (Spoiler: make people feel seen and heard.) It's been great so far! By engaging with and advising the executive team, management, and employees, I’ve been able to bring everything together for a stronger organizational foundation moving forward. And beyond these challenges, how often do you get the chance to hire two completely new development teams as part of organizational development—in just four weeks? Reviewing CVs, conducting interviews, negotiating, onboarding, team building—it’s all been part of the journey. I’m incredibly proud of the international team we’ve built, representing Brazil, Argentina, Iran, India, Ukraine, Austria, Greece, and the Netherlands. If your organization faces similar challenges, feel free to reach out. 💪🏻 📞 ☕️

Is it wrong to enjoy the first working week of your year?! Winter is a hard time. The lack of sun, the cold, the wet...not exactly inspirational. Imagine my surprise, then, when I found my first week back to be much more enjoyable than I thought I might! This was helped by the 2 weeks of proper downtime I was able to take over the festive period. I came back rested and able to tackle things that 2024-Katie had left for 2025-Katie to worry about (2024-Katie is sometimes not my favourite person!). Working alongside my wonderful colleagues in the HR team at The British Museum, I have found this week to be one which has been forward-looking, full of exciting and meaningful plans, giving me energy for the year ahead. Amongst other things, I have spent this week: 🌟 Connecting with colleagues in our Visitor Services team 🌟 Alongside my HR Manager colleagues, reviewing the team's strategic objectives for 2025 and beyond 🌟 Hearing from Museum management about the latest updates on the Museum's Masterplan (more of which here: https://lnkd.in/e2VP5haD 🌟Reconnecting with 2 of the 5 Staff Diversity Networks the Museum offers, and with whom I have the privilege of working 🌟Planning for meetings next week with the other Staff Diversity Network Chairs, so that we can work to put together a plan of action for this year 🌟Reviewing the EDI pages on the Museum's intranet and thinking about how to internally position the EDI work the Museum does I found the end of 2024 quite challenging but I recently listened to a podcast which really changed my mindset. It was talking about "open-label" placebo medication and how, even if you know that the medication you're taking is a placebo, you will still get the benefits as if it were the actual medication. So even if you know you're not taking actual medication, your body will react as if it is. The human mind is a powerful thing. Last year I felt as if I were in a funk for no other reason than my mind was telling me I was in a funk...so, I thought - let's shift that mindset. Use the power of my mind (such as it is!) to think myself into a more positive place. None of this is to say that life isn't sometimes challenging, worrisome, and frustrating. Of course it is. But I am determined to face this year's challenges in the expectation that I can and do have the power to react in the way that I choose, rather than feeling like a cork bobbing in the ocean, with no power or agency to determine my direction. Here's working on a positive, thoughtful, and productive 2025 🎉
