A bit of an old video (12 years old!), but I just came past it and I like how open McDonald’s is about the whole question and this short video is a really great way to to understand how a food photoshoot is really made; and why food items often look different in advertisements than they do in real life. In the video, Hope Bagozzi, McDonald's Canadian marketing director at the time, shows the behind-the-scenes process of a photo shoot, with the food prepared by a food stylist then a graphic designer works on the pictures in Photoshop. That's compared, side by side, to an un-doctored quarter pounder bought from a local McDonald's restaurant. Fascinating process! Switching To Videography! As much as I like poking at photographers, I think if you’re contemplating the switch to videography, you should definitely take that leap! When I first started I was pretty overwhelmed but I quickly fell in love with the cool videos I could create for a days worth of shooting and crafting a story that was my own. Videography is special because art is subjective and everyone has their own style to their process and as long as you know the basis, you can make anything that’s not “standard practice” a purposeful shot to convey a weird or eerie feeling. So if you’re thinking about being a videographer? Go do it!
