The future for AS/400 developers looks promising. While the workforce is aging, there's a high demand for skilled professionals who can bridge the gap between the robust AS/400 legacy systems and modern technologies. Developers should focus on modernizing their skillsets by learning contemporary languages, web development, and cloud concepts. By becoming proficient in both traditional RPG and newer technologies, AS/400 developers will be in a prime position to navigate modernization projects and remain highly valuable assets for organizations that rely on these powerful systems.

The market for #AS400 developers can vary depending on factors such as location, industry demand, and the specific skills and experience of the developer. As of my last update in January 2022, the demand for AS400 developers has generally been stable, with many companies still relying on #IBM i (formerly known as AS400) systems to run critical business applications. However, it's worth noting that the AS400 platform, although still widely used, is considered legacy technology by some, and there has been a gradual shift towards more modern platforms and technologies in recent years. This shift may affect the demand for AS400 developers over time, although there will likely continue to be a need for developers who can maintain and modernize existing AS400 systems. Overall, AS400 developers with strong skills in #RPG (Report Program Generator) programming language, DB2 database management, and experience with IBM iSeries systems may still find opportunities in industries such as manufacturing, finance, healthcare, and logistics where AS400 systems are prevalent. Additionally, developers who can adapt to new technologies and integrate AS400 systems with modern solutions may be particularly valuable in the current market.
