💡Thought-Provoking Read Alert! 💡 I recently came across an intriguing article that I felt compelled to share. It raises an important question: Should we be asking why Europe needs Africa or why Africa needs Europe? More importantly, can we build cooperation between Africa and Europe by leveraging both continents’ strengths to identify converging interests, compatible visions, and potential synergies? I’d love to hear your thoughts on this! https://lnkd.in/edPr97c8

As countries across Africa commemorate Africa Day with the theme - Celebrating Past Successes While Building Towards the Future, it is a good opportunity to look at the determining factors that have major roles to play in building towards the future in Africa while we celebrate our past successes. One of those future determining factors is a Unified, interoperable and resilient internet. However, across the vast and diverse continent of Africa, the promise of a seamless digital future is often marred by the spectre of internet fragmentation. This article by our Senior Programmes Officer, Ihueze Nwobilor looks at the factors that have contributed to the different forms of the manifestation of Internet fragmentation(Challenges) in the African context and will go further to proffer solutions towards addressing these challenges. https://lnkd.in/eqWAygBx

THE AFRICAN CONTINENT The map below illustrates the actual size of the African continent. In conventional maps, Africa has often been depicted as significantly smaller than its true scale to fit other continents proportionally on the map. This distortion is primarily due to the limitations and biases of the Mercator projection, a common map projection that enlarges areas far from the equator while shrinking those closer to it. By accurately representing Africa's true size, this map highlights the immense geographical expanse and the diversity of the continent, correcting misconceptions perpetuated by traditional cartographic practices. Please remember Africa is composed of 54 Nations, more than 2,000 languages and a total population of 1,494,032,813 :
