Biotechnology startup Fauna Bio and drugmaker Eli Lilly are collaborating to discover drug targets for obesity through a process that involves studying the genetics of animals that survive extreme conditions.Animals that endure conditions such as hibernation have evolved ways to protect themselves from illness. Emeryville, Calif.-based Fauna studies how hibernating animals, for example, avoid disease despite going months without eating, drinking or moving.
