I am thankful to all the Black women that removed the door. I am thankful for those that chose not to be gatekeepers but gate openers. I am thankful to women in general. Those that get it. Those that have said Hannah needs to be in this space because even if what she says isn’t going to make us feel good, we need to hear it. Some of us are called to be spacemakers- to make space for those coming behind us. If you have access, don’t make access difficult for others, especially those that already have to fight so much. If you are IN the room, your job is to MAKE room for others. #women #motivation #blackwomen

A newly minted CEO held a meeting with his executive team to talk about the company’s growth. One of the CEO’s direct reports suggested that the company can grow its market share. The CEO, listening very attentively, was clueless about his manager’s suggestion; he wondered, “should I ask a question, but if I do ask, that will reveal my lack of knowledge, and I may appear incompetent.” Many people in leadership positions believe that “not knowing” will somehow signal their staff that the leader is somehow inept. Leaders cannot be all things to all people; they don’t need to know everything; they can’t; that’s fundamentally why leaders build great teams with the expertise to help the organization fulfill its purpose and achieve its vision. Remember, leadership is not about you; it’s all people, inspiring, motivating, developing, and genuinely caring for people to become the very best version of themselves. Mostly, people don’t change jobs solely for money. They almost never resign on a whim or in a fit of anger. They joined your company because they believed its right for them, and they actually want it to be right. Something, at some point, makes it wrong. And if you really take the time to dig into their real reasons for leaving — and you should — you will find that it’s not “the company” they blame. It’s not the location, or the team, or the database or the air-conditioning. It’s the leadership! So, next time you get a resignation, resist the temptation to laugh it off as “another dumbo who doesn’t get us.” It’s not the departing employee who doesn’t “get it.” It’s not the company they are leaving; it’s the leadership. One of the hallmark traits of great leaders is their ability to build great teams with the expertise to help the organization achieve its vision and, in the process, fulfilled its purpose. These leaders have the wisdom to give their team the freedom to produce great work because it makes no sense to recruit the best and micromanage their work. It's counterproductive; it will affect your team's morale and, in the process, create a very dysfunctional place to work. When you have a great group of passionate, inspired, and motivated people eager to make a difference, give them the freedom to work, create an environment that allows them to become the very best version of themselves. When leaders recognize that they don't have to be the smartest person in the room, these are the companies that consistently pull off innovative or heroic feats in business because so many of the people who work there are given the freedom to make it happen. Yesssssss, Queen!! 👑❤️ It's the baby hair for meeeeeee! 😍 NASCAR will never be the same now that Brehanna Daniels is there. She is the first Black woman pit member—though she didn’t see it coming. While attending Norfolk State University, Daniels, 27, played point guard for the women’s basketball team. She never once thought about NASCAR as a career, she told ABC News. When asked about what her 17-year-old self would think about what she’s doing now, Daniels said she’d say, “Girl, you are crazy…” “Especially, you know, a little Black girl like myself at that time. [I] definitely was like, I’m never getting into NASCAR. It wasn’t even a thought in my mind,” she continued. NASCAR came into the picture when recruiters from the association’s Drive for Diversity program appeared on her campus in 2016. Her skills on the basketball court were an easy match for NASCAR’s fast-paced pit crew. Following months of training, Daniels became the first Black woman, over-the-wall tire changer in the history of NASCAR in 2017. By the end of that year, she made history again after becoming a part of the first female duo in a NASCAR pit crew. NASCAR has worked to increase diversity in the association for the past 12 years. More than 60 of NASCAR’s women and minoritized drivers have come through the Drive for Diversity program. The program has trained 75 gender and ethnically diverse candidates for NASCAR’s pit crews since 2009. Still, while some celebrate her accomplishments, Daniels has encountered some negativity on the job. She’s learning to tune it out. “People were like, ‘Oh, she sucks,’ ‘What does it matter that she’s Black?’ It’s like, why wouldn’t that matter? You don’t see that every day in NASCAR. Why wouldn’t that be talked about?” she said.
