The pride I have representing Myers Middle School, the best middle school in Savannah, GA is amazing because I believe my students are the best, so I believe that I'm the best. Just to be able to represent Savannah on such a large scale is amazing. She's the State of Georgia's Counselor of the Year and in the hot front, National Counselor of the Year Gabby Brundage is definitely all in for her students. I tell them that every day is a new day. And it's great because you can rule that day so you have the day that you want and I'm here for it. But we're gonna get through it together. I would say she is like the the heart of the school because she comes in with her high energy every day. She makes you laugh, She'll tell a joke and a second. And she has this amazing ability to build relationship with the kids that goes beyond her regular duties as counselor. Students need to feel welcomed. They need a safe space to feel like they can be heard. And God be Miss Brundidge provides that. And she's just very well connected with the kids because she allows them to be themselves. OK, everybody, welcome to Rocks. Miss Brundage is the rock star leading Rocks ruling. Our experiences for girls at Myers Middle School Rocks has given us tools to navigate challenges and set ambitious goals. We're especially grateful for our rights group leader slash mentor, Miss Brundage, whose dedication and encouragement has made a profound impact on our experience. Her passion for help and succeed, and her belief and our potential truly inspired us to reach new goals and heights. I was able to mentor 15 girls my first year, and the second year I was able to mentor 15 more girls with their funding. With the funding, I was able to have asked align curriculum and programs that were able to help our students become better, better versions of themselves. The kids at this age, they're confidence determines how they tackle on a problem. And Gabby engages the students. She's picking good stuff to grab their attention. She just makes some really, really comfortable and she always makes sure that they know who they are and what they can become. She's just an amazing personality. She is an amazing. Part of what we do here in Myers and we are privileged to have her with us. Gabby Brundage, best of luck on the national stage with your staff spotlight. I'm Ken Slats.

What’s your favorite way to cope when you’re stressed or need a break? Mrs. Alspaugh, school counselor at Mill Creek East, has a March Madness bracket to determine which one is the best school-wide. What I love is that the audience immediately sees 16 ways to cope that they can try and I bet one of them will work for each student. #millcreekccr#socialemotionallearning#employabilityskills#EA3

Cultivating Changemakers through Restorative Justice 🌱
This article and interview by Education Week gives insights to the benefits of Restorative Justice practices, including restorative circle, as a teaching tool to support students with resolving conflict. Not only is it a life skill students (and adults) need to have, it also supports outcomes for students academically and socially. In serving the whole child as educators, creating and maintaining spaces for resolving conflicts are essential in building up Changemakers and supporting the being and becoming of our students.
Cultivating Changemakers, LLC will continue to support the work restorative circle and other forms of circle have in community building, as research shows its direct, positive impact to learning.

Referral Process! Keep it comprehensive! Students & teachers need to know how to access the school counselor. Create a system that easily helps Sts “advocate” independently what they need! Elementary! We set the foundation! Let’s go! We can! We will! #scchat#schoolcounseling 💛
Parent: "I would like to speak to my son's counselor."
Secretary: "Your son has five counselors. What is your concern today?"
School counselors cannot be expected to be experts in all the issues and tasks we must contend with.
I speak often about organizing your counseling department by domain. What are the benefits of domains?
🔥 Proactive vs Reactive
🔥 Every student receives lessons and individual counseling in all the ASCA domains.
🔥 Students don't slip through the cracks.
🔥 Counselors can leverage their strengths.
🔥 100% of students have a post-secondary plan.
It works! If you would like more information and data to back this up, DM me!

I firmly believe that developing strong partnerships with families and the community is essential for effectively advocating for the diverse needs of the children and families we serve, respectful communication and collaboration with parents/guardians allow us to deeply, understand each child's unique background, culture, strengths, and needs. Attached is my Philosophy of Teaching Statement.
I'd like to know: Did you utilize your school counselor when you were in elementary/middle/highschool?
If so, what was the greatest impact your school counselor made for/on you?
If not, what were the reasons you opted to steer clear?

Restorative practices will fail because you’re making this crucial mistake at your school. 🏫
When I partner with a school, we must start with building community. 💯
Without this, what are you restoring students to? 🤦🏿♂️
Don’t start over next year. Let’s disrupt together.

G-word terminology, shaming people who use the word guidance, and crossing out (X) guidance on t-shirts, mugs and posters is not a good look for school counseling.
Simply put, there would not be school counselors if not for the groundbreaking work of guidance counselors.

School Counselor
Next Generation Guidance
We come from a long tradition of service. Did you know that guidance was advocating for child employment reform in the early 1900's? Or that guidance was a key component of the National Defense Education Act of 1958 that helped the United States put a man on the moon and was the genesis of many technologies that are commonplace today?
School counselor is now our professional framework and title. We work to implement data-informed comprehensive programs that promote prevention and address multiple challenges that include advancing technology, mental health concerns and access to college and career options.
When you refer to us by our school counselor title, it is a vote of confidence that we appreciate.
Thank you for your continued trust and support as we continue to make contributions and advancements under the banner of school counselor.
