Mitigating corrosion related issues for above ground storage tanks is a major effort for the oil and gas industry. Over the next two years, SRNL is working in conjunction with the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration to investigate the utilization of vapor phase inhibitors to combat corrosion along tank bottoms. Both in-field testing and assessment as well as laboratory testing will be conducted. The project also aims to develop long term monitoring solutions for the tanks as well as standardize the application process of the vapor phase inhibitors. The pictures show the matrix of tests SRNL is conducting to develop a database of corrosive sand conditions.

SRNL is seeking an experienced analytical chemist/radiochemist/electrochemist/physicist/nuclear scientist to support our analytical services. SRNL is partnering with the The University of Georgia Research Institute Scholars’ Program to initiate an inaugural mentorship program for students within its Center for International Trade and Security. Lauren Jackson, deputy program manager for the Export Control Review, Compliance, and Interdiction program at SRNL, will serve as the collaborating scientist and mentor UGA graduate student Kaley Walker during the 2024-2025 academic school year.
