I still remember all the talks and the unparalleled optimism connected to #IoT, #Industry 4.0 and #SmartFactory. LOL! That was almost a decade ago! 😁 Everybody was using these terms to praise their solutions, whether true or not. (Similar to today's talk about #AI? 🤔) After this Peak of Inflated Expectations, the Trough of Disillusionment follows. Then comes the Slope of Enlightenment. And the final stage for a successful new tech is the Plateau of Productivity. Yes, this is the (#Gartner) Hype Cycle. Now Koh Young Technology, Inc. is one of the few companies that went trough all the set backs and kept working towards achieving the vision of a #SmartFactory. 🤖 🚀 And here they are, being recognized for essentially sticking to and staying dedicated to their vision. In September, IMEC team members were invited for a visit to General Assembly & Manufacturing Corp. in Cary, IL. to speak with President Alexander Nadtochiy and the Managing Director Stephen Vivian about the work they have done with IMEC. General Assembly & Manufacturing Corp. is a contract assembler performing a wide range of hand, power assisted and automated assembly and packaging operations that was founded in 1977 by Paul Tomaszek and Mike Hamby. IMEC and General Assembly connected in 2023 for work on lead generation, and since then, have been involved in numerous other projects. After a tour of their facility, Alexander Nadtochiy and Stephen Vivians poke with Vice President of Operations Mary Hallock, Regional Manager Doug Pennington, and Marketing Specialist Joshua Falco about the work they do. Made in Minnesota Today, I visited the very first Target store in the world, located in Roseville(Minneapolis), Minnesota—a city that has long been a hub of innovation and success stories for some of America’s largest corporations. Target, founded by the Dayton Company in 1962, is a prime example of how companies can strategically evolve and become industry giants. I even picked up some tempeh during my visit! Minnesota, home to other global companies like 3M, Best Buy, and General Mills, has fostered a culture of corporate innovation. Originally a department store chain, Dayton’s made the strategic decision to sell its department store business to Macy’s in 2004 to focus on expanding the Target brand. This bold move was in response to the changing shopping habits of consumers, who were increasingly seeking more convenient and value-driven options. Reflecting on how Dayton’s successfully adapted by prioritizing Target, I can’t help but think about Intel's current situation. Much like how Target navigated market changes, Intel now faces the opportunity to shift its focus and adapt to evolving technologies. As we’ve seen with companies like Nokia, those who fail to stay ahead of the curve risk becoming irrelevant.
