Reflecting on the past 1,5 years since we 2DUTCH Hospitality Collective began, I’m genuinely grateful for the journey and growth we’ve experienced.  it was the right decision! Both Niels De Wilde and I, and our network of associates, have had the privilege to support and provide hands-on expertise across a wide array of impactful projects throughout Europe. Every project, from commercial hospitality ventures to partnerships with international hotel brands, has been a learning experience, improving my skills and growing my appreciation and passion for this industry. We’ve faced challenges directly—filling important staffing gaps, supporting hotel managers, and helping businesses hire new talent. The hands-on approach we champion isn’t just a strategy; it’s become our identity at 2DUTCH Hospitality Collective. Being able to roll up our sleeves, bring our commercial insights, and truly make a difference is what drives me every day. Working with Niels has been a great adventure! Our approaches (and personalities) bring different flavors to the mix, and his expertise and fresh perspective have pushed me to grow in ways I hadn’t expected. Interesting statistic from the JLL’s bi-annual Capital Market Collective conference when inflation adjusting global capital market volumes. In 2009, we assumed the worst, in 2023 it was assumed we would find opportunities in an interest rate environment at a two decade high, impacting the cost of debt and therefore higher cost equity, insurance escalations and rate cuts right around the corner…. Now here we are in mid-2024 with insurance resembling normal growth (market specific), rates already cut in several larger GDP economies or signaling rate cuts this summer and plenty of equity ready to be deployed. If waiting for the perfect time to deploy capital and looking at a 5-7 year hold, look at the years proceding 2009….

Great conversation with our Retail and Hospitality Directors Dominic Tixerant and Lizzie Knights on the CADA Design webinar last week. Topics covered included: 🛍 The new anchor brands: It's not just about department stores / big retail names any more. Visitor patterns have changed since the pandemic - today, a successful mixed use destination has it's own 'brand', defined by the unique blend of services/ leisure/ wellness/hospitality/ retail that increases dwell time and pull people in from morning to night. 👗 Increase in international entrants to UK retail, particularly from the US - these brands are translated differently here in London, where there is less space than their US market equivalents; while not able to carry the same breadth of lines, the range of townhouse concepts and boutiques offer a more engaging shopping experience. 🥘 It's exciting to see a huge increase in big international hospitality names looking to open in London - particularly from the Middle East and Europe - furthering London's reputation as a world leading restaurant destination and bringing with them a greater focus on service and luxury design.
