Completed my first full work week at Skye.
A good week, w/ my definition of good being:
👉 taking time to set yourself up for success
To me that’s:
• getting right systems in place
• getting right processes in place
• getting familiar w/ all assets & resources
• getting familiar w/ value prop & talk tracks
• getting familiar with your team
But shouldn’t you be blasting out calls, emails, proposals, closing deals asap..
that’s a no from me dog (Randy Jackson anyone?)
Perhaps you’ve heard the story of the two woodcutters..
if you haven’t, here’s a condensed version:
Two woodcutters in a competition to see who could cut down more trees 🌲 by the end of day.
One experienced woodcutter older in years, the other younger and stronger eager to prove his ability.
After an hour, the experienced one paused, sat down to take a break and invited the other to join.
“No way! I’m going to keep chopping & beat you.”
“Suit yourself,” 🤷♂️ said the experienced one.
This repeated itself throughout the day.
Every so often the experienced one would pause to rest, while the younger stronger woodcutter kept chopping away.
At end of day, they compared to see who had chopped more wood.
The younger stronger woodcutter was astonished 😮 to find that
the older woodcutter (who kept taking breaks) had chopped way more wood.
“How is that even possible? You spent far less time chopping than I did.
I’m stronger and never once stopped chopping. What is your secret?”
To which the experienced one replied,
“every time I sat down, I was sharpening my axe.” 🪓
CTA - whether it’s a new job, new week, new quarter, new whatever..
take the time to put yourself in a position to win (sharpen that saw).
