𝗟𝗜𝗩𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗗𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗪𝗜𝗧𝗛 𝗗𝗘𝗘𝗣 𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗜𝗟𝗜𝗘𝗡𝗖𝗘 is more than a summit. It’s a space to connect with experts who are ‘walking the talk’ of resilience through practices that help us connect with ourselves and the world we are part of.
On 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟭 of the summit, Amanda Blake, PhD, author of “Your Brain is Your Body” shared how developing embodied awareness increases our capacity for being resilient. In her session 𝙀𝙭𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙖𝙡 𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙣𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙚𝙙𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙂𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙧, Amanda underscored rest as an essential ingredient in our resilience equation.
She pointed out an insidious problem in our current cycles of rest and activity – that we are mostly interacting with machines and trying to keep pace with “machine time.” She explained:
“A machine can be always on, with enough electricity, with enough fuel. But that attempt to keep pace with machine time interferes with our capacity for embodied self-awareness. It interferes with our capacity for experiential interconnectedness. And it interferes with our capacity for resilience.”
She pointed out the key in this tech-driven world is to use tools but not let them use us, so rest and connection (to ourselves, to others, to nature) need to be built into our routines:
“We can’t get there without being in these healthy cycles of activity and rest. Always ‘on’ will interfere with experiential interconnectedness, and our sources of resilience. So, we need to prioritize that cyclical process of slowing down, of getting quiet in certain ways. When we learn to embody ourselves more deeply, we resource ourselves more deeply.
