SBLSD’s Teaching Academy students are guaranteed future interviews with the district! As we celebrate students who are committed to becoming educators, we also hope they come back to the place where they discovered their passion for the profession. Congratulations to this year's the 25 Teaching Academy students from Bonney Lake and Sumner high schools who were recognized for their pursuit of becoming educators at a badge ceremony on June 5. Teaching Academy is a CTE class offered to students who are interested in entering the field of education. Through Teaching Academy, students learn the techniques of teaching, how to create lesson plans, learn about instruction, and apply those skills out in the field as part of an internship. Students in Teaching Academy also take a state-required paraprofessional test that can automatically guarantee them an interview if they apply for a para position with SBLSD. Further, students who complete Teaching Academy and graduate from college with a teaching degree will also be guaranteed an interview for a teacher position with our District.

The first-year experience (FYE) is crucial for student retention and long-term success. Students entering higher education face numerous academic and social challenges, and without the proper support, many struggle to transition smoothly. Institutions that invest in structured FYE programs see higher retention rates and more engaged learners. These programs, when effectively designed, provide students with the tools to navigate college life, develop critical skills, and foster a sense of belonging. As you look to build enrollment and retain students designing FYE courses and programs that offer the right mix of academic rigor, support services, and engagement activities is a key component. #highereducation #firstyearexperience #studentsuccess

All well and good, but the way to fix maths teacher recruitment is to fix maths to be the right subject…exciting to teach, relevant to the real-world, conceptual, and therefore computer-based. https://lnkd.in/e7nC_-mD

My time at Liberty as an ASP teacher for work base learning has been a very fun and interesting experience. So far, I have been responsible for taking care of the elementary students after school, making sure they behave and nothing bad happens. I try and teach them to use their manners and be kind to one another so no fights or anything bad break out. I play football, soccer, games like jackpot, and sometimes draw with the students to keep them entertained. Lots of times I have had to get students to apologize to one another so they can stop fighting and arguing with each other. I have learned that with elementary students, patience is key. It is hard to have patience but once you gain it becomes much easier to be able to talk and teach them. I have also learned that since they are just in elementary school, they do want to just have fun, but that doesn’t mean you should be too lenient towards them. You want to be nice and kind to them, but as soon as you show them too much, they start acting more wild and crazier around you and start behaving worse. That is why it is necessary to not be scared to raise your voice or act more seriously around them. This has been beneficial for my future because again of patience, I have gained much more patience which I never have really had. Patience can help people out during a stressful or any uncomfortable situation. Cherokee High School Work-Based Learning & Youth Apprenticeship Program #CherokeeWBL #GeorgiaWBLWorks

🌟 𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗕𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗮 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗨𝗞 𝗪𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗮 𝗗𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲? 🌟 Did you know one of the most common ways to become a teacher in the UK is by obtaining Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)? QTS shows you meet the government's Teachers' Standards, but it requires a degree. If you’re looking for a route that doesn’t involve a degree, there’s Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) status. QTLS allows you to teach without needing an undergraduate degree, opening doors to a rewarding teaching career. Want to know more? Check out our blog for details on how to apply for QTLS! Education Consultant and Senior SDN Associate - supporting providers to ensure maths and English is at the centre of their provision
I really enjoyed meeting maths and English specialists today to discuss the importance and the challenges of effective initial assessment in maths and English, in my webinar for AELP. In apprenticeship recruitment, maths and English ability need to be central to the enrolment process. It generally takes a year to achieve a level in maths or English, so it is no surprise that a learner assessed at Entry Level 2 doesn't achieve Level 1 or 2 in the time available and, as outlined in AELP's February 23 paper on "Raising The Standard," maths and English are one of 6 main drivers for withdrawals. There seems to be a misplaced assumption that maths and English are easier targets to hit than is in fact the case. For those specialists managing the initial and diagnostic assessment process, there remains some dissatisfaction that commercial packages don't tend to reflect the format and style of the qualifications, and provide insufficient support to the process of identifying additional support needs for learners. There is a case to be made for developing in-house, contextualised initial assessment packages, and this can be relatively straightforward. It also allows you to incorporate confidence building and induction elements into the process. If this interests you, drop me a message and I am happy to discuss further. Ultimately, I don't think the package or option chosen is crucial. What is more important is that those managing the process are clear about interpreting the results and recruiting appropriately. It needs to inform target setting in a meaningful way that is student led. This will go some way to engaging potentially reluctant learners to develop their maths and English skills. #mathsandenglish #initialassessment #contextualising

It's that time of year, many young people are faced with the decision of what they want to do next. Working with training providers within the outdoor learning and early years sectors the benefits of apprenticeships are not always highlighted as a viable option and schools are directing young people to 6th form or college. These are not suited to everyone, some people are practical learners and like the hands-on experience that apprenticeships can give them, especially in the outdoor learning environment. -Explore all options available, seek advise from those with the knowledge and experience. Don't despair if you haven't got the results that you wanted, you still have options to have a fabulous career. #apprenticeships https://lnkd.in/dAnVpEP8
