It's been a few weeks since my colleagues and I had the opportunity to attend the 36th Annual Roth Conference in Dana Point, CA and they're still buzzing with excitement. From attending fireside chats with industry professionals to hosting a happy hour event and watching Marshmello and Nate Smith give incredible performances, this year's ROTH was one for the ages. Yesterday a friend asked me: ”Did you celebrate when you hit $70M in portfolio value?” And after taking a second to think about it, I gave him an answer I don’t think he was expecting… ”No, I reframed my goals a long time ago, now I celebrate something completely different” Often people think that investing (and business) is all about money. - Stacking chips in a pile. - Building to a bigger portfolio. - Adding more locations and properties. Don’t get me wrong, it’s all good fun! (And something I’ll continue to do 🤷♂️) But the things I celebrate today look a little different: - Big milestones with my children and family. - Helping or impacting a resident in a big way. - Steps toward our mission to impact 1,000,000 lives. And all the moments we create big returns for our amazing investors. So, yes! I do celebrate our wins! But those wins have changed along the way for me. These are regular conferences held around North America to connect private equity firms (who want to buy great businesses) with investment bankers like me (who are representing and finding good partners for great businesses).
