This is HUGE.  Clinical Support Workers, also known as Healthcare Assistants, are frontline NHS staff who give personal patient care. They will hold your dying relatives' hand, they will bathe, feed, and turn patients. These duties are written into their job description. But the role has evolved and the vast majority of Clinical Support Workers now perform clinical duties above their pay grade (including venepuncture, ECGs, insertion/removal of catheters, urinalysis, and bladder scanning). This has gone on for decades and has been made worse by the crisis of recruitment and retention among nursing staff.  Led by a fantastic worker-run organising committee, UNISON Wirral Health Branch is the first branch in the country to go into dispute over this issue. It shouldn't have come to this. But so long as the Trust refuse to settle the dispute, Clinical Support Workers will remind the Trust of their worth. When we started gathering evidence and coming up with a strategy for the campaign, there were 300 Clinical Support Workers in UNISON. Now, eight months later, 500 are expected to take strike action. The Long Term Care Community Coalition released a report with federal data on five-star ratings, ownership type, enforcement, and other important information for the nearly 15,000 U.S. #nursinghomes in the federal #CMS dataset.
