We agree with the HSRA: We are encouraged by talk of growing the national passenger rail network's long distance routes; however, the trains must be faster, more frequent (2-3 trains/day), and more reliable. We also need a better federal rail program: https://lnkd.in/gxf6k-BE

The 2021 Infrastructure and Jobs Act provided an unprecedented amount of funding for passenger rail. As conversations continue about how to best allocate these funds, David Alff's "The Northeast Corridor: The Trains, The People, The History, The Region," is a great overview of how the busiest part of the American passenger rail network developed. The book is a valuable reference for planners, policymakers, and the public. https://lnkd.in/em3jb66C

A so insightful World Rail Map... even if it's not an official one, it gives us a good understanding of the rail distribution and the different choices made by countries for the speed links, the network grid or the density. Interesting also when we talk about #hsr in #nsw ... to understand the importance of a solid rail network to commute and link economic cities and capitals with an efficient solution.

I just finished reading through the FRA’s long distance study (thank you Infrastructure and Jobs Act!) and it’s exciting. While it’s true that intercity rail works “best” (i.e. generates the highest ridership, encourages mode-shifting, is the most economical) at the ~100-400 mile sweet spot, expanding long distance services will: (1) Immediately benefit millions of Americans with no current rail connections; (2) Strengthen political support for Amtrak; (3) Establish beachheads for higher-speed rail between city pairs unserved by rail today. Comments to the FRA are due March 8! https://lnkd.in/e9rwqkV6

#FunFactFriday: The FRA created an online portal to help track the location and impacts of blocked crossings. FRA shares this information with stakeholders, railroads, state and local governments, and other federal authorities. Let us know here: https://lnkd.in/erzQBRt

"...Network Rail has produced an efficiency profile for CP7 for each of its regions and National Functions that aligns in total with our final determination. The supporting documentation to the final delivery plan provided more detail on regional efficiencies. This is positive but we have not yet seen sufficient information about how these efficiencies will be delivered..." (excerpt from ORR's 28-Mar letter to NR https://lnkd.in/e3a3R5aF ). >>> Getting each NR Region to properly start ‘pulling’ on Digital PACE is necessary if a meaningful contribution to the efficiencies piece is to be achieved; see - https://lnkd.in/eGHEu9DW & - https://lnkd.in/eAAB8SxZ #capitaldelivery #ControlPeriod7 #GreatBritishRail #MethodGrid #NetworkRail #NetworkRailConsulting #PACE #ProjectManagement #rail
Will Godfrey, our Director of Economics, Finance and Markets, was a key speaker at the Rail Industry Forum on 1 May. In his talk, ‘PR23 and beyond’, Will spoke about our work setting the next rail control period as a platform for investment and a customer-focused railway. Will said after the event: “It was fantastic to connect with colleagues from across the industry. We discussed the latest on control period 7, rail reform, and how ORR is working to support fair access to the network and seeking to improve results for passengers, freight services, and the environment.” Read more about PR23 and control period 7: https://lnkd.in/exwZ8WuJ #rail #regulation #railways

The CSX Southwest Railroad Corridor Assessment Study is now available. This study was initiated to explore the possibility of establishing passenger rail service in the region. The primary study corridor runs southwestward from the Miami Intermodal Center (MIC), near the Miami International Airport (MIA), to the City of Homestead. Based on the insights gained from previous studies, TPO developed three alternatives to evaluate for joint passenger and freight rail service that could aid Miami-Dade County with resiliency, congestion, goods movement and offer additional mobility options for residents and visitors. The study recommends the CSX Southwest Railroad Corridor be amended into the Miami-Dade 2045 Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP), as a Priority IV unfunded project, for potential future use as a shared freight/passenger rail corridor. Read the Final Report at https://lnkd.in/gtsw8tGn and the Executive Summary at https://lnkd.in/g4uZVSzD. #MiamiDadeTPO

With approximately 1.7bn individual journeys in 2019, the rail industry forms a significant factor in how people and goods flow around the UK economy. Given the recent headlines and press coverage of the sector, I sat down with Dr Mark Casson to discuss the history of the British rail industry, it’s nationalization in the early 20th century and how the modern economic climate will affect the network in the near future! Rail nationalisation is likely to feature in the Kings speech today prior to a bill being passed to formally legislate GBR. This can only be a very good thing for customers and the future of the network for future generations and I hope it comes with full measures on controlling ticket prices and sustainability policies. We’ve had a delapidated national network for far, far too long. #longlifelighting Network Rail
