Many people start their mornings with a cup of coffee, and while caffeine can certainly provide a much-needed boost in the early hours, I’ve found something that’s possibly better. Stronger than caffeine and easier than any Keurig or Nespresso is my morning meditation and moment of gratitude in which I reflect on the family, friends, and remarkable colleagues I am grateful for. The only cost is time well spent, and I start my day with more calm and purpose than any barista can deliver. There is an Irish proverb “Ní neart go cur le chéile,” which translates to “There is no strength without unity.” We’re surrounded by an oftentimes awe-inspiring healthcare industry in which life-changing and lifesaving medicines exist. And they only exist because of the dedication, brilliance, and passion of employees like those I am honored to work alongside within Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine’s Office of the Chief Medical Officer (OCMO). OCMO employees work urgently to bring innovation to waiting patients. Our mission is to innovate with purpose and lead where medicine is going. We do this through patient-centered, medically and scientifically excellent, and ethics- and value-based decision making. OCMO plays a unique role in the organization and industry at large. Our employees apply their expertise spanning medical and safety science, epidemiology, and bioethics to make evidence and science-based decisions. From our pre-approval access program, to driving clinical data transparency and pediatric development, we exercise this mindset by engaging groups across the organization, with a commitment to patients. With a robust pipeline and clear organizational goals marking the path forward, 2024 will undoubtedly be a year of continued success, growth, and impact – all of which is made possible by our employees. While I may not be able to convince you that meditation delivers a bigger kick than caffeine, I am confident that the value and contributions of our dedicated J&J employees need no other words, except for maybe two – thank you. This Employee Appreciation Day, and every day that follows, I’m thankful for their efforts on behalf of our business and, most importantly, the patients we serve. Nurturing Life and Community: A Journey Beyond Healthcare in North Idaho Leading a Federally Qualified Health Center in North Idaho, I’m reminded daily of the immense privilege and duty of our mission: We Exist to Improve Life. This is not merely a slogan; it's a compass guiding every decision and action we undertake. In healthcare's complex world, it's easy to get lost in disease management and treatment. Yet, at Heritage Health, we focus on prevention, understanding each individual’s unique life, environment, and daily choices. We’re not just treating diseases; we’re treating the whole person, integrating medical, dental, behavioral health, and pharmacy services. I lead a team of passionate professionals who are more than employees; they’re pioneers redefining healthcare from a disease-centric to a life-centric model. This shift is monumental and challenging, but profoundly rewarding. Healthcare's true beauty lies in relationships—the foundation of effective care. These bonds extend beyond professional realms, forming partnerships rooted in trust, empathy, and shared goals. We’re not just healthcare providers; we’re confidants, advocates, and friends. Our team's unity is vital. Each member's unique perspective and experience enrich our collective effort. We support, learn from, and celebrate each other, creating an infectious camaraderie that extends to the community we serve. Community engagement is crucial. We’re part of North Idaho's fabric, committed to being more than healthcare providers but life-changing agents in the community. As a leader, my role is to inspire and embody the values of authenticity, respect, and encouragement. I'm constantly learning, aiming to be better tomorrow than I was today. Our path at Heritage Health is one of hope, empathy, and unwavering commitment to improving life. It's challenging but incredibly rewarding. I'm proud to lead a team that's not just in healthcare but redefining it daily. Together, we're setting new standards, making a tangible difference in lives and enriching our own. #Healthcare #CommunityHealth #PreventiveCare #Leadership #Teamwork #Idaho #ImprovingLife
