Published today in the Boston Business Journal, Engine Ventures General Partner Michael Kearney and The Engine Accelerator VP of Public Affairs Benjamin Downing called for even bolder ambition from Massachusetts to retain its leadership role in the clean energy economy. Among their recommendations: ▪ Passing Governor Healy’s Mass Leads Act into law as soon as possible to meet our climate mandates and maximize the economic benefits of the energy transition ▪ Expand the Act to include demand formation mechanisms for new technologies including sustainable cement and steel and those reducing carbon emissions from our natural gas infrastructure with hydrogen and heat pumps, built around the same type of incentives that spurred Massachusetts to be a leader in solar and energy efficiency ▪ Launching a re-energized “Leading by Example” initiative designed to make it easier for public entities to adopt clean energy ▪ Making it easier for climate tech companies to scale and deploy their technology here in Massachusetts  ▪ Allocating resources for a public-private-partnership demonstration center where technologies can be tested in real-world conditions and validated by potential partners Read more on their vision for Massachusetts’ green future. https://lnkd.in/eRbnwSMg

The world is undergoing an energy transition right now, fueled by the development and deployment of new clean energy technologies. The pace of innovation at the heart of this transition is happening faster than many people (including me!) dared hope. The progress makes me optimistic about the future—and excited about the role that American communities will play, especially in places like Texas. Nearly the 1 year mark here at Clean Power Staffing! A year I will always remember. The first year of many years to come. A year full of all sorts of emotions that come with building something you believe in, from the ground up. What started out as an idea from Ruben Garg quickly became living out our dreams of entrepreneurship. What we have accomplished: - Working with some of the greatest groups in the renewable energy industry that want to change the world - Working with top talent that is making all of the renewable projects come to life - Far surpassed our company goals in year 1 A few things that have stuck with me from year one: - Remember the golden rule. Treat people as you want to be treated - You can never be prepared for everything. Be flexible, be ready to learn, be ready to get vulnerable - If you're not both feet in then you are already out. Take the jump, you will figure it out.  - Set both short and long term goals. You need to see both sides of the coin to believe in what you're doing - Have someone on the journey that believes in the same vision just as much as you do This would not be possible without you Ruben Garg Cheers to another one!

When I first met Martin and the team at Aira, I couldn’t believe the vision, mission, and the timeframe. Such a big company, huge ambition, yet only a few months in they were. That unrelenting focus resulted in a company with real traction in less than two years. Still so much to accomplish but well on its way. Astounding for the complexity of the sector, products, and business - so well executed. Execution is everything. 🔥 The launch day came, and I watched on like a proud mother. We played an incredibly small part in the team's journey, learning so much. The diligence and detail they went to for a new business was stellar; I hadn’t seen anything like this in a long time. According to Aira, 4 million UK households could have a heat pump fitted straight away. It says there would be an average 25% smaller heating costs and a 75% reduction in CO2 emissions if you were to make the switch. On top of this, the Boiler Upgrade Scheme means that the British government will give eligible homes £7,500 to replace their old gas boiler. The market is huge. While some countries like Aira's home country Sweden are already in on heat pumps (with almost half of households having a heat pump already), around just 1% of homes in the UK have one. At the risk of sounding like a total fanboy for one of our competitors I wanted to post this because I get a lot of questions from folks starting out in this business about how to build great companies. I have incredible respect for what Michael Polsky and James (Jim) Murphy have built at Invenergy. In particular the way they've built it. 1. They've hired and retained an incredible team over many years 2. They're in it for the long haul and have thrived across many cycles 3. They're not zealots on technology, we still need natural gas gen and killing it only strengthens renewables opponents 4. They bring a deep understanding of power markets, not just renewables 5. Perhaps most important for entrepreneurs, they've maintained control of the vision despite being in a really capital intensive business Polsky helped to define independent power in this country and continues to. If you're looking to build something big in this space you could do worse than reading up on Polsky, Cartwright, Garland and others to better understand what they built and how they built it.
