Today, the first-ever AI Expo for National Competitiveness, hosted by the Special Competitive Studies Project (SCSP), in conjunction with the Ash Carter Exchange on Innovation And National Security, concluded at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. It was a remarkable opportunity to explore the AI industry. Wirtschafter led a great panel with the National Science Foundation (NSF)'s Erwin Gianchandani and SUJAI SHIVAKUMAR, Ph.D. With industry AI investment surging public R&D for basic science and national missions is becoming much, much important.

This morning, 3 panelists and the audience engaged in the conversation of artificial intelligence (AI) on day 3 at the Social Mission Alliance (formerly Beyond Flexner Alliance) conference 2024. I really appreciated how Dr. Siobahn G. started her keynote by asking where people were in the process, whether people were enthusiastic or skeptical about the subject. As a group, we discussed the benefits, the impact AI can have on consumers, as well as the concerns that call for pause. As leaders continue to promote the mission of equity technology integration will call for prioritization. We must find that balance to appropriately innovate for a brighter future.

As AI continues to advance, the question arises: do we trust AI to summarize our contributions to a panel discussion? My answer: to a certain extent. This viewpoint developed after reviewing an AI-generated summary of my contribution to the panel "Boosting digital collaboration for resilience and sustainability in shipping" held during the UNCTAD eWeek 2023. The panel featured Margi Van Gogh, Wolfgang Lehmacher, Mikael Lind, Teemu Manderbacka, and Andre Simha. The discussion was skillfully moderated by Jan Hoffmann. I am thrilled to share that yesterday I joined the conversation at #LMITNights! We delved into a critical topic: Will the AI revolution reshape our societies? Will the complexities of this emerging world demand new competencies? Are there simple answers to those questions? One I am sure. This should be a wake-up call to everyone. According to a Google DeepMind paper, the development level of AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) is predicted to reach superhuman level by 2029. This prospect is both exciting and challenging, sparking completly new business landscape. After discussion with Ewa Szulik-Stach I have also gained confidence that Ringier Axel Springer Tech is right positioned and taking the appropriate steps to address upcoming AI challenges. Our proactive approach suits us well for the future, setting a benchmark in the industry.
