The Bell Eagle Eye tilt-rotor UAV first flew on July 10, 1993 – this demonstrator was developed to validate and refine basic flying qualities and performance characteristics of a small-scale tiltrotor with the potential for future applications to VTOL UAV missions. #FirstFlightFridays #UAV #VTOL
The first tilt rotor was the Bell XV-3. Made its first flight in 1955. The push for a viable, widespread use tilt rotor has been going on for almost 70 years.
Being wrong to be right too early.
OK Andres, now that's a BIG toy!
Hydraulic Systems Engineer doing super cool hydraulics stuff
1moI still would encourage research into lightweight hydraulics to power the props. This allows the engine to be stationary and also allows for a centralized engine configuration. The hydraulic motor would pivot with the props and the engine exhaust would not damage the tarmac.
