I am delighted to share my recent article, “Impact of Inoculum on Domestic Wastewater Treatment in High-Rate Ponds in Pilot Scale: Assessment of Organic Matter and Nutrients Removal, Biomass Growth, and Content.” This article provides new insights into the use of nature-based solutions (NbS) for wastewater treatment, particularly exploring the impact of inoculating high-rate ponds (HRPs) with activated sludge. The study evaluates critical parameters, including organic matter and nutrient removal, biomass growth, and the potential for resource recovery. Our findings highlight the advantages of using microalgae-bacteria consortia to improve system stability, pollutant removal efficiency, and biomass production, with a focus on optimizing operational parameters to maximize sustainability. These results contribute to advancing innovative, low-cost wastewater treatment methods that align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). https://lnkd.in/dy9cssTY Lourdinha Florencio Antonio Albuquerque JUCELIA TAVARES @antôniogustavoneto #waterresources #environmentaltechnology #SDG #biotechnology #civilengineering

🌍✨ First Conference Experience in Czech! I had the wonderful opportunity to present my research poster at a #conference (Odpadové fórum 2024) in the Czech Republic, even though I don’t speak Czech (yet)! My presentation focused on exploring the potential of #algae as a substrate for biogas production (Projekt Refresh), highlighting its #sustainability and environmental benefits. What made this event particularly memorable was that it was organized in Czech, with most presentations showcasing locally implemented solutions in waste management. This local focus was truly inspiring, as it highlighted the importance of addressing environmental challenges through region-specific strategies. It was a valuable reminder of how critical it is to adapt solutions to local contexts to ensure their effectiveness and sustainability. #Research #Biogas #TVIP #WasteManagement #RenewableEnergy Institut environmentálních technologií

🌿 'Nature's Treasure Trove' – Building a Bioeconomy 🌿 As we conclude our 'Building a Bioeconomy' theme this week, we dig into the fascinating field of biomass, in conjunction with IKC3 - Ireland's Knowledge Centre for Carbon, Climate and Community Action, a project enabling transition to a low carbon economy. Dating all the way back to the first fires, biomass has been used for energy through all of human history. After falling out of favour due to the rise of oil in the mid-19th Century, biomass is making a comeback, but as much more than just a source of renewable fuel. From brewer spent grain to banana peels, in food, energy, medicine and more, the ways that we generate new, sustainable value chains from our waste will go a long way to determining our success in building an effective bioeconomy. Special thanks to Dr Gaia A. Scalabrino, Ph.D., Executive Director, NatPro, Trinity Centre for Natural Products Research, TCD School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences, Trinity College Dublin. #NaturesTreasureTrove #BuildingaBioeconomy #Hemp #Mushrooms #Biomass #SustainableAgriculture #Biofuel #NaturalProducts #Sustainability #Innovation #Science Make sure to follow us here to catch the full series of #NaturesTreasureTrove and find out more here https://lnkd.in/dpmRKxTt
