Essential Tips for a Stress-Free College Move Moving your child into college is a significant milestone filled with mixed emotions: pride, excitement, and perhaps a bit of sadness. As you prepare for this big transition, a little organization and planning can go a long way in making the move smoother for both you and your child. Start Early Begin preparing at least a couple of months before move-in day. Create a checklist of what your child will need, including essentials like bedding, toiletries, and school supplies. Join parent social media groups to find out what works and what pieces you should invest your money on (there are so many options, stay focused). Don’t forget to consider the climate of the college town and any specific items your child may need for their particular dorm setup. Create a Packing List Start with a comprehensive packing list. Make sure to check your college’s regulations on what is allowed in dorm rooms. Some colleges have restrictions on appliances like microwaves and refrigerators, so it’s important to be aware of these rules. Break it down into categories to ensure you have what you need. Packing & Move-In Pack strategically, taking into consideration the limited space in dorm rooms. Use under-bed storage containers, collapsible bins, and multi-functional items to maximize space. Label boxes and bags clearly to make unpacking easier. Labeling everything will make unpacking your boxes and bags much easier. Use color-coded labels for different categories, such as clothing, toiletries, and kitchen items. Emotions & Connection This transition is as emotional as it is logistical. Acknowledge your feelings and those of your child. It’s okay to feel sad about the change, but also focus on the exciting new opportunities ahead. Plan a fun activity or a nice meal together before saying goodbye to create a positive memory. Moving your child into college is a big step, but with careful planning and open communication, it can be a smooth and rewarding experience. Embrace this new chapter with confidence! Need help? Back to School Cleaning Tips: How to Manage a Clean and Organized Home Amid the Chaos https://ift.tt/yC4NfRI As the back-to-school season approaches, families are gearing up for a busy new routine of packed lunches, homework, extracurricular activities, and early mornings. While excitement builds, so can the clutter and mess that comes with the transition. Keeping a clean and organized home during this hectic time can seem overwhelming, but with a few simple strategies, it’s entirely manageable. Here are some practical tips for parents to maintain a clean and organized home as the school year kicks off. 1. Establish a Daily Routine Consistency is key to maintaining cleanliness and order. Create a daily cleaning routine that fits into your family’s schedule, focusing on high-traffic areas. Assign simple tasks to different times of day: Morning: Make beds, tidy up the breakfast area, and ensure backpacks are packed. After school: Have a designated spot for shoes, coats, and backpacks to prevent items from being scattered around. Evening: Wipe down surfaces, load the dishwasher, and prepare lunches for the next day. By breaking down tasks into small, daily routines, the cleaning load becomes more manageable and prevents things from piling up. 2. Create a Drop Zone for School Supplies One of the quickest ways for clutter to take over is when school supplies, papers, and backpacks end up in random places around the house. To avoid this, designate a "drop zone" near the entrance where your kids can easily leave their backpacks, jackets, shoes, and lunchboxes. Use hooks, cubbies, or bins labeled for each child, making it simple for them to know where to store their things. This will keep the rest of your home free from school-related clutter and make mornings smoother as everything is in one place. 3. Involve the Kids It’s never too early to teach kids about responsibility when it comes to cleaning. Assign age-appropriate chores to your children to help them contribute to the household upkeep. For younger kids, it could be something simple like picking up toys or sorting their school papers. Older kids can take on bigger tasks like vacuuming or helping with laundry. Make cleaning fun by setting a timer and turning it into a race or challenge, or put on music while everyone cleans. Not only does this lighten your workload, but it also instills good habits in your kids that will serve them well in the future. 4. Prepare the Night Before Mornings can be chaotic, so preparing the night before can help make everything run smoothly. Lay out clothes for the next day, pack lunches, and ensure backpacks are organized and ready by the door. Encourage your kids to take ownership of this routine by having them check off a list of things they need to prepare before bed. A little bit of effort in the evening can prevent the morning rush from turning your home upside down. 5. Prioritize High-Traffic Areas Not every room in the house needs to be...

Sarasota, Manatee, and DeSoto county children return to class today, August 12th, and It's an exciting time with new instructors, classmates, and subjects, but returning to school may be difficult for children as well. Here are 5 Back-to-school tips for kids and parents. 1. Early to bed, early to rise Getting back into a school sleep schedule won’t happen overnight! A few weeks before school starts, get your child into the habit of going to bed earlier. Gentle winding-down activities such as bath time and reading before bed can help your child relax. 2. Re-establish a routine Establishing a consistent routine is important for kids. Write out the steps in the routine and rehearse them with your child. In the evening, this could include doing homework, playtime, brushing their teeth, having a bath, and reading before bed. 3. Encourage independence Children who play an active role in preparing for back to school – such as choosing and organizing school supplies and new clothes – are more likely to get excited about going back to school, which in turn eases they’re jitters. Is your child old enough for chores like emptying the dishwasher or making lunches? Daily, age-appropriate tasks will help your child gain independence and confidence. 4. Choose the right backpack Backpacks that are too heavy or worn improperly could result in muscle strain, headaches, and neck pain. Try to choose a backpack made of sturdy, lightweight fabric with wide, padded straps that will support your child’s shoulders. Watch that they don’t sling it over just one shoulder. 5. Talk about safety Review outdoor safety rules – things like looking both ways before crossing the street, taking the same route every day if they are walking, familiarizing themselves with crosswalk rules, and being cautious in talking to strangers. #NationalBacktoSchoolMonth #wecarefamilyconnections
